Hi, there should be no problem according to the Sony spec. it can take up to 200G.

I can only think that the class of card is too low possibly? What class are you using?

I think the issue is "exfat"?
Try formatting the card to "fat32" (in a PC) and try it in the phone again.
If the card is detected by the phone, try formatting in the phone again.
When moving cards to different devices sometimes the "flag" options can become corrupt. (The flag is not usually affected by formatting)
Formatting to a lesser but universally accepted file table can sometimes correct the issue.

Out of curiosity, do you have another SD card of the same capacity but a different brand? The only reason I ask is I have had some strange things happen with SD cards - sometimes a phone just doesn't seem to like a particular brand (even though there is nothing wrong with it) but will work with another.

As a matter of interest, have you tried a different file manager? I'd just like a rule out an issue with the internal one. The problem will be that it won't be able to write to the card due to Android security restrictions (though ES File Manager did have a workround for some brands), but it would be interesting to see if it can read it.
Also, do you have the option in Settings to format the card in the phone? I know you've tried erasing it and the fact that anything's happening at all suggests that the OS recognises it. You could also put a file on the card in your PC, then erase in the phone. If the file's gone, it would point to an issue between the app and the format rather than anything else.

That's a good idea @hrym.
@onlyonepinman - could you not try formatting your SD card in your wife's phone and seeing if that helps?

Fat32 is always the best option for SDcards as it is universally read by all devices, however you cannot create a partition bigger than 32GB with Fat32 using normal methods.
You could try Fat32formatter
I haven't used it myself, I prefer gparted
