iMessage waiting for activation

I've burned up nearly two days trying to sort this out!

New iPhone with verified Apple ID

I messaging and FaceTime both hang on waiting for activation. Spent two hours on the phone to Apple and they swear it's because vodafone is blocking the Apple SMS activation number.

Spoke to vodafone 6 times today and they keep telling me it's my network settings, which they have redone several times.

Tried all known fixes.

Apple got me to test it by manually sending a text to the activation SMS number- it fails every time. Please help!

I'm having exactly the same problem (grey phone number that can't be selected)... I've tried everything;

factory resetting my phone

creating a new apple id

resetting network settings

removing the sim

turning facetime and imessage off on all devices

nothing works 😕

hi chaps,

my sms stopped working after backing up my iPhone 4s today.

iMessage still worked fine so I stupidly toggled it off.... yup you guessed it it wouldn;t toggle back on and I got the dreaded iMessage waiting for activation message. SMS didn't work either.

I did a full back up and restored my iPhone in iTunes and 1/2 an hour later this got iMessage back up but the sms still doesn't work.
