Your best best is to visit an Apple store if possible. There is a known problem with the charging cables and if you have a faulty one Apple will replace it without question. Do you know anyone who has a lightning cable that you can try to check if it is your cable at fault?
I would avoid letting Vodafone send it away for repair as you will be without a phone for 2-3 weeks whereas if you make an appointment with a Genius at an Apple store they will replace the phone on the spot if it is faulty.
Make sure you make a backup to either iTunes or iCloud before you go any further so that you can restore all of your data to a replacement phone
