I bought a k5008-z off ebay and a vodafone sim card from the supermarket. I inserted the sim into the dongle and then the dongle into the laptop. The light flashed a few times and eventually went solid white.
However nothing happened on the latop - no software installation. There was no access to the dongle from "My Computer", and the device manager has 3 entries for "ZTE WCDMA Technologies MSM". All of them show cdoe 28 - drivers not installed.
I downloaded the latest VMB from the vodafone website and installed it. But the VMB just says that the device is "not available".
I'm running Windows 8.1. I've also downloaded the "Mobile Broadband" app, but that also says that the device isn't detected.
I've tried different usb ports.
Do you think I've been sold a dead stick?
Any ideas please?

Hi @phillipsmw
It’s possible you’ve got a faulty dongle, but I recommend you follow the steps in our get started guide, to make sure this is set up correctly.
Also, check you’ve got the latest software.
If possible, it’s also worth testing this with another laptop.
Thanks,
Jenny

Hi, I also have s K5008-Z. This one worked perfectly for several days on both a W7 and W10 laptop.
Then on plugging into W10 laptop VMB says "No device". Looking in device manager when the dongle is plugged in thee "ZTE WCDMA Technologies MSM" devices appear with yellow icon code 28 "No compatible drivers". See attached screenshots.
The light on the dongle flashes then solid purple so has connected to 4G yet no device!
I have uninstalled VMB and run the VMB clean tool then installed latest VMB from your website. Same result as above. Also searching windows update for drivers produces no results.
Tried the same on the W7 laptop, same results. Also installed on a W7 desktop that had never had VMB before, same results.
Asked at a Vodafone shop and they basically said "No idea" and shrugged their shoulders! Not impressed with that level of customer service!
Anyone any idea how to resolve this? Seems my dongle is stuck in some strange mode or or has my dongle died?
Thanks
Mike
