Broadband drops

Madhatter
4: Newbie

Hi,

My broadband keeps losing synch with my VPN, strangely in 80% of the time, I can still surf the net.

Noticed the below error in the log, The strange thing is this virtually only happens when using the WIFI and the other devices are connected and WIFI works for them.

Thank you

@Madhatter The situation is that VF have not implemented IP6, thus your log is full of the address family errors. When the VPN connection drops you are just routed by the general internet.

Would that cause the VPN to drop and anything I can do to fix it?

Strangely it does not happen on RJ45 via homeplugs

.@Madhatter You may actually be losing the connection over WiFi very temporarily and not noticing, it would be interesting to note the device IP address when you first use it and after the VPN interruption, this may rule-out DHCP issues. You might be able to change the DHCP lease expiry time (I'm doing this from memory as I do not use the THG3000) to a longer period or to "never". My suspicion being that the router is dropping the WiFi after so many hours from when the IP address was assigned to your device. Alternatively give the device a fixed IP, if possible.

On the router turn off IPv6 as it's not going to work on VF anyway and we can see if there's something odd going on in the firmware related to that.

There are strange things with the THG3000 such as Xbox not working directly wired but working when going via an unmanaged switch, so my hunch is that the DHCP expiry behaves differently between cable and radio. I could be wrong mind you 😀

Hi,

I have changed the lease to never but don't think this is the issue as it dropped some times 2 minutes after connecting.

I've got another issue with a device that was working but now isn't. Same sort of error message.

Think Sunday job is to switch over to Fritzbox

Ok so basically for the past 4 months I've been having problems with my gigabit broadband, every day without fail the internet connection will drop off of my wifi and ethernet, and return after 5 minutes, all of the lights are still on both the router and siro box when this happens and I've had my router replaced once already, which didnt change anything.

Now in this time I've made at least 40 phone calls to vodafone and have had no luck getting it fixed. They wont send an engineer out to check and see if it's the siro box or even the line because 'if there was a problem with either of them it would show up in their system'.

When I check the event logs in the router settings there are two particular things that I see when the internet connection drops "No response to 5 echo-requests from WAN FTTH-PPPoE, Serial link appears to be disconnected" and "WAN FTTH-PPPoE is down" https://9apps.ooo/.

No clue what either of those mean but if someone could give me some insight it'd be much appreciated.

@limnakhau Are you in Ireland? Siro is an Irish solution I believe. This is the UK forum.
