Broadband not impressed

Hi all.

I had full fibre 900 installed 2 weeks ago which uses the CityFibre line. I used to have Sky fibre 500 which was installed by Openreach (BT).

With the Sky fibre I had no issues of any kind, download speeds used to regularly hit 450Mbps through the Xbox.

But now with the Vodaphone 900 fibre it just never seems to work right. Wifi drops out quite a lot and I have my TV and Xbox connect using cables (I've tried CAT5e and CAT6 cables) and they don't connect at all. If I unplug the cable and plug it back in, then I get a connection, so the connection is there is just doesn't connect. It does this EVERY time? Never had these hassles with Sky. The download speeds are also very disappointing, only ever reaches a max of around 350Mbps. I went for the 900 line for faster downloads but it's slower than the Sky 500.

Outside they have also left slabs sticking up, trunking exposed and a big line across my grass, very poor standard of installation. Strongly considering cancelling it as I'm within the 14 days cooling off period.

@RobDon It took 3 months before VF agreed that I could leave early without paying the ETF.

Sadly for VF when I did move to a new ISP the new one fixed the line fault on day one as part of the installation.

VF were not prepared to call out OpenReach.

Very interesting, thanks for that info. I'm just going to keep on badgering VF until they either fix it or I can leave without paying the ETF because of issues from day one.

VF called me today after I submitted another complaint and said I wanted to leave. They are doing tests on the line and are calling me back tomorrow. I asked why I was now being routed to London and not Edinburgh - they couldn't tell me why but said they'd look into it.

CityFibre also contacted me today, saying they had received my complaint about the outdoor quality of work and said they are investigating it. I sent them pics of the state it was left in.

We'll see what happens now!

CityFibre came out today and sorted all of the outdoor issues, the installation looks much tidier now, slabs are flat, no exposed trunking - the guys were great and did a good job.

VF are now testing and monitoring my line, they couldn't explain why I was being routed to London, but the person on the phone made some changes to the router settings and it now routes back to Edinburgh. So we'll see how it goes.

Well nothing has changed. Despite all of the changes they said they have made, including giving me a static IP, I still cannot get over 300mbps on a download. It actually seems worse than before.

The only conclusion I can come to is that VF is throttling download speeds, when I do line tests it is fast, wifi is fast - but try and download anything and it is slow, always sub 300mbps.

I never had any problems with Sky/Openreach fibre at all, everything just worked and was fast, I 100% regret choosing VF for a fibre line.

Vodafone have agreed to let me leave free of charge - so I'll be happy to be rid of it and go somewhere else.

Good news for you @RobDon

Do let us know where you go, and how it is once you get there.

Will you stick with CityFibre, or go back to Openreach do you think?

Going back to Sky who use Openreach, never had a single problem with them before.
