On June 8th, 2024, I received a confirmation from Vodafone regarding the upgrade of my services, initiated by OpenReach. They are upgrading the connections, which initially sounded excellent. The new services were scheduled to commence on August 1st. However, I had not requested this upgrade.
Upon contacting Vodafone for clarification, they courteously explained that it was part of a broader initiative to upgrade to fibre connections, enhancing internet speed and transitioning to fully digital phones. While this is a commendable advancement, it is worth noting that we do not use the landline, a common trend in today's world.
August 1st arrived, and unexpectedly, my service remained unchanged. The only noticeable difference was the unwelcome alteration of my static IP address to a dynamic IP address during the migration process undertaken by either Vodafone or OpenReach. This change significantly impacted our operations, as we run a server that requires constant access, which was disrupted.
I spent an hour on chat with a polite representative named Deepak, who repeatedly recited the same script, indicating that the disruption is a temporary consequence of the migration. He assured me that the NEW static IP address would be given in a few days. However, this temporary disruption has already caused significant inconvenience and hindered our work.
Reconfiguring the server with a NEW static IP address is manageable. However, updating the API with the new IP address is more time-consuming, especially since I have yet to receive the new static IP address.
The lack of transparent communication from OpenReach and Vodafone has resulted in a negative customer experience for me. The unexpected service change and incomplete disclosure, resulted in operational disruption and it all could have been avoided with proper notification and planning.
Are we still calling this progress and upgrade???

Have you even had a visit by an openreach contracted engineer to install your fibre? If not you must inform vodafone as that's what they're expecting. Communication between openreach and ISPs is not the best at times.
