FTTP - 200Mbps is the max?

Hi

Looking at switching broadband provider, we have FTTP and have been with BT the past 2 years who can offer up to 900Mbps, as can all the other providers (EE, TalkTalk) and Sky can offer 500Mbps. But for some reason Vodafone can only offer 200Mbps? When looking on comparison sites, they all list Vodafone 500/900Mbps as an option but when clicking through to the Vodafone site, 200 is the max.

I tried speaking to someone on the live chat and they basically said they don't like to overpromise whereas other providers don't care. This seems unrealistic since they all have minimum guaranteed speeds and the OpenReach site/BT wholesale site say I have full FTTP with up to 1000Mbps.

Anyone know why this is?

Thanks for getting in touch @oj2 and welcome to our Community 🙂

Its great you're considering us as your new provider and it's a good question. Speeds can differ between different addresses on the same street or even different flats in the same building. We'd rather give as an accurate speed estimation as possible - if we think the average speeds would be in the 200mbps bracket, we'd rather say this than give you any false expectations.

200mbps are still some amazing speeds and this shouldn't affect the use of the service at all 🌟

Odd, I just checked my postcode and I can get Vodafone's 900MB FTTP broadband. So, they do offer it. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I'm thinking of signing up to Vodafone's 100MB FTTP broadband but I'm going to wait until after April to do so (if I do)! Otherwise, I will be hit with their annual price increase within a few days of connection.

Unfortunately I can't get FTTP here, but if I could, Superfast 100 is definitely the one I'd go for, simply because you can get it without paying for Pro.

FTTP speeds can still be dependent on how many people are connected to the one fibre - it's not one fibre one customer, and where there are not enough actual fibres the available speeds can be lower than elsewhere.  If capacity on the only fibre available is low, then you may only be offered a lower speed.

*Since Christmas, Openreach, CityFibre, and Virgin Media have ALL put infrastructure in place adjacent to us (co-ordinated too - I'm amazed).  But this means, if we move providers there is no FTTC option available!

So you can see all FTTP products with other Openreach providers?

Similar experience here where the Vodafone checker either doesn't show any FTTP some days and then up to 200Mbps other days. When the address is Openreach 900Mbps capable according to Openreach's checker and some other ISPs.
