1.6/2.2gbps speeds?

Hi all,

I am a Vodafone user with FTTP and the Pro 2 package with 900mbps now. I know Vodafone offer 2.2gbps speeds now but for some reason I dont have this available. Is this due to the fact I have Openreach FTTP instead of CityFibre? If so, does anyone know if / when Openreach will be doing higher?

My biggest concern though is that Vodafone only allows me to select 900mb and yet EE shows 1.6gbps available for my property. If my line is capable of 1.6gbps and Vodafone offer up to 2.2gbps, why am I unable to get the faster speed? I am on the Pro 2 package with all the extras, so I want to make sure I am getting the most my line can handle as I have a lot of load on my network.

Thanks

@mdss1988 The difference in speed offered is likely to be the contract between the ISP and the infrastructure provider. Basically the speed is what it is and if more is desired then shop around. I'm sure you are aware that offered line speed does not mean lower latency or experienced performance of remote connections. The speed is a theoretical maximum in ideal conditions.

Yeah I get that. I have been with EE in the past and had no issues, but moved to Voda on a good deal. Now the difference is negligible and the speed is something I would like. Hopefully someone from Vodafone can comment if / when a 1.6gbps package will be available as my line can clearly handle it, my ONT is capable and Vodafone offer higher speeds on different infrastructure. It makes sense to match the competition surely.

@mdss1988 Who knows what VF are planning, not me 😁 I'm still on FTTC and dream of the day when someone finally installs fibre in my town.

We're actively rolling out 1.6Gb in the Leeds area on openreach - to new customers only and where capacity allows. If openreach's postcode checker says it's available then an engineer would likely have to visit to upgrade your ONT. Patience, this is still new.

You could always move into Leeds or Manchester. I'd suggest Birmingham but well........

Sometimes I wish I lived in a quieter area.

@mdss1988 how would you benefit from a faster connection. 500Mb is ample for most use cases.

In my workplace I have to download large files and yes the 900mb is great but 1.6gbps is better. Couple that with being a big gamer, if I’m paying the price for the pro 2 package then the extra bandwidth available would be a nice to have. Not essential but certainly nice to have.

So your workplace has >1Gb fileservers and >1Gb upload. Quite a sweet place to be.

Have you checked your postcode with openreach's site?

https://www.openreach.com/broadband-network/fibre-availability

Yeah US based company with global staff and some serious infrastructure.

yeah Openreach shows 1600mbps available so I know the service is possible at my address but it doesn’t seem available with vodafone yet. Only EE and that’s what I couldn’t understand as it says 2.2gbps available with Vodafone.
