New installation-download speeds with homeplugs

Ok, so today i was finally connected to fttp - I moved from fttc at about 45mb to full fibre 150mb.

Using my iphone in my lounge (2m from where the router is), i'm getting near as damnit 150mb...nice.

On my pc upstairs using a homeplug (200mbps), i'm getting anywhere between 43 and 56mb....sometimes the speed is slower than my old fttc speed, using the same homeplug set up...odd.

Upon researching a little, am i right in thinking these 14 year old homeplugs are just limted now (i know the 200mbps is a manufactured figure) ?

Any suggestions to help me get better speeds upstairs...do people still use homeplugs for a 'wired connection' these days ?

@danceswh If "homeplugs" are the same as "powerline" devices, then they now go up to 2000 Mb so it could be time to invest in new ones. Of course the speed does depend on the quality of your house wiring, but I get you already knew that.

WiFi speeds are not a reliable indicator because of numerous factors not at least the structure of your property and interference from neighbouring radio (WiFi) signals.

The house is 10 years old, so modern wiring...also detached, if that reduces interference from neighbouring wifi signals.

Yes, i did mean powerline adapters, and although my old adapters says 200mb, i know that figure is exaggerated...from what i've read 50mb is about as much as you should expect.

@danceswh I have 1000Mb ones and the speed I get is around 350Mb in a house constructed at the end of the 1960s. But my measurement is from an upstairs room to the router downstairs so the actual route is via the "consumer unit" (fuse box). If the journey was just on one loop of the house wiring it would be about 600Mb, I've tested this before. If I was willing to go through all the mess and expense of rewiring I'd put in some ethernet at the same time.

Just a bit odd that with the my new fttp 150mb bb, that occasionally i'm getting a slightly slower speed than my old fttc connection, albeit with the same powerline set up.

@danceswh Your slower speeds could be just the cable to the first powerline device, did you try in a different LAN socket in the back of the router? Did you get a new router, the carrier speed could be too fast for the old device.

Cheers for the advice about the 1000mb powerline adapters...always good to hear other people's experiences.

I'm just using a pair of 200mb powerlines...one from router to powerline#1 (living room), and one from powerline#2 to pc (upstairs)...the only difference in set up from previously, is the new vodafone router.

@danceswh Well try another LAN socket on the router.  You never know, disturbing the cable could have done something.
