Hi all,
Hoping someone can help! We have a Broadband Superfast with a HHG2500 modem/router. Not happy with having to keep resetting it everyday as the connection keeps dropping and red light blinks. Was thinking of getting another router but how do I know there won’t be an issue with the connection dropping if I’m still using the ‘modem’ part of the Vodafone machine?
If the issue is related to the modem bit will I therefore still have an issue having to reset each time it plays up?
Kind of makes it pointless spending any money on a new router if I might still have the same problem.
Can anyone recommend any good alternatives if I wanted to replace the unit completely, ie. combined modem/router kit for under £100?
thanks in advance!

Unless you talk to Vodafone and get the line tested, then it could be cabinet/line issue.
Also, the Vodafone modem/router, cant' be just used as a modem, it doesn't have the settings to be set up in that manner.

Hi, thanks for your reply.
I don’t think it’s the line as this was checked a while back by an Openreach engineer. We were having an issue with the speeds at the time and he helped fix the line a bit better.
So you’re saying I wouldn’t be able to get a separate router to connect to the Vodafone unit and have it act as the modem?

Just a quick update with more info.
When the red light starts flashing, try to connect to the routers web interface. If you can do that then you know it's not that the whole router has rebooted and it is just a connection issue. If you can still connect to the router, then it's rare that it's actually a router problem - not unheard of but rare! On the flip side, there is no good reason that the router should be rebooting, unless it's faulty or there is something else happening within its environment that is somehow interfering with it (this is the old water pumps, fish tanks, small-bore plumbing pump, or large industrial loads coming online thing). If the router is rebooting and there is no good reason, it may be faulty.
Regards just getting a router and plugging it into the modem/router that you have; the Vodafone device doesn't have the settings to be stepped down to working as just a modem. Even if you turn off it's DHCP functions, it'll still provide many of the hidden network services that a router provides, and adding in a second router can create all kinds of problems. It's very much the VF modem router or replace everything (you can actually use a third party modem with the VF modem/router, but again it's undocumented and unsupported).
So, see if you can still log into the router when the red light is flashing. I'm suspecting if you talk to VF they may want to send you a new router. If you go down the route of getting 3rd party equipment, come back to these boards and there are several people who can help you!

Hi Keith
Thanks again for your help. I spoke to someone at VF on the web chat yesterday and they said they will be sending a replacement. Hopefully that will help sort of out the issue once and for all. It wasn’t so much rebooting itself, as just dropping the connection to the point where the red light blinks and I then need to reboot the device to get going again.
Appreciate your help!
