Hello there. Since I first signed upto Vodafone broadband, I have been having constant issues with my broadband. I've been onto Vodafone 9 times already in 12 months. I've even had openreach out to investigate. Everytime it's been the router at fault.
The last time I spoke to them, I said openreach and the 2nd line team said I needed a new router, and after speaking to several people in a row, Vodafone refused to give me one, simply updating mine as it refused to update itself. I said on the phone that if I had one more issue then I would expect to leave free of charge as its not getting sorted.
Fast forward 2 months where it worked properly. Now it's playing up again. I'm on superfast 2, should get around 60mbps, but have to restart the router now 2-3 times a day else I'll get around 14mbps. After a restart it does return to 60-70mbps for a while on speed test. Net.
I contacted Vodafone recently as I can now get fttp broadband, and asked about an early termination fee and explained the router issues, to be told I'd have to pay the full amount or buy my own router. Why should I buy my own router when I PAY Vodafone to supply me with one!
I'm going to ring them Saturday and say I want to leave. What can I do or say to avoid a heavy exit fee. I'm not getting what's promised and they haven't fixed it. Everyone I contact say there's alot of notes on my account so they can see the issues. I'm tempted to go to the BBC watchdog, ofcom and ombudsman to help me get out. Is there anything I can do?

In order leave without penalty, you would need to go through the official complaint procedure, and if they don't fix it, then reach deadlock and take it to Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), where if CISAS find in your favour (they probably will) be allowed to leave and get compensation.
I have to say from your description it doesn't sound like a typical router fault, more likely line. (still Vodafone's job to get it repaired)
