My TCL C845K TV can't connect with WIFI

Hello,

 

My TV can't connect to the WIFI and after many troubleshooting methods, from what the manufacture said is that the TV needs to have between 36-48mhz, but 44 is best MHZ frequency connection. 

 

Using 128.168.1.1 expert settings I can only select 20mhz/40mhz or 20mhz only and it seems the TV can't pick this up. I just bought the TV and would rather end my contract with Vodafone as their support is very bad. 

 

Would purchasing my own router be a solution or is there a setting I'm missing? 

 

It would seem the TV can only pick up the 2.4ghz channel after toggling different settings, when I do a hard reset of the router and TV the connection works for a while extremely well then it will suddenly stop working. Toggling different settings have different results sometimes the TV can't detect the WIFI at all and other times it will connect but there will be no Internet connection. 

 

My older Samsung TV couldn't pick up a great connection but it was just about bearable as its quite old I believe it was using the 20mhz connection semi-successfully. All my other devices work fine particularly my MacBook Air M1 has always been super fast.

Your post is rather confusing.

You say  "It would seem the TV can only pick up the 2.4ghz channel ", but then you also say: "from what the manufacture said is that the TV needs to have between 36-48mhz, but 44 is best MHZ frequency connection." and that is on the 5Ghz band.

So which is it? 

And, no, I don't think a different router will be any better.

Sorry if it wasn't clear enough, to clarify my TV can only pick up the 2.4ghz channel and TCL the manufacture have said it gets the best connection on a 44mhz bandwidth connection  or something close to it. 

 

As the Vodafone settings only let you set the bandwidth connection at 20mhz only or 20/40mhz I think this might be the problem where the router is applying 20mhz for the TV. 

 

My older Vodafone router settings used to allow you to set 40mhz bandwidth connection only but the new settings don't allow this. I'm aware other people had similar issues from what I found on these forums and people have been trying to download the old Vodafone app to set their bandwidth connection to 40mhz only. 

 

I don't think my TV wifi module is faulty as I can easily connect to my phones and iPad hotspot it just can't connect to my Vodafone WIFI.

I think you are confusing bandwidth with channel numbers.

I really wouldn't change the bandwidth from the default.

Looking at that TV on the web, it is 802.11ax, which means it is Wi-Fi 6 and can use both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands.. (unfortunately if you have the THG3000 router, that is only Wi-Fi 5, but that shouldn't be a problem)

Whilst I can't explain your problem, I'm sure it has nothing to do with bandwidth settings

after rebooting the TV multiple times it would occasionally connect but always drop off again and won't be able to find the WIFI. I've decided to exchange the TV which I can only guess its the WIFI module. If that doesn't work I guess I'll find another model TV!

@P_h According to the TCL website the TV works on the 5GHz band as well as the 2.4GHz one.

Why the hell do you have the Gateway network setup as 128.168.1.1?

By default you should using a 192.168.x.x address like 192.168.1.254. This is the default address of the router.

Agreed. Certainly doesn't make sense to be using an IP registered to a private company in Wichita USA. This may be the root of the OP's problem as they won't get a dhcp response from there.

192.168.1.0/24 is the default for the vodafone router. If the op wants to use a totally different subnet then why not 10.0.0.0/24. But then why change it in the first place? It's Internal network so no real security implications. 

Sorry typo! I use 192.168.1.1 which is the default network setting here in UK.

For range use the 2.4 Ghz, and that should be adequate.

 

For speed use 5.0 GhzWi-Fi Channel Androidalyser.png.

 

Personally I use a ""Wi-Fi meter"" checker on my phone, and if you try standing where the TV is the signal strength should show for both frequencies.

 

Then knowing if the 5.0 Ghz reaches to your TV .....................................................
