PPP Session Uptime - No Connection

I recently signed up with Vodafone for there Fibre 2 service and I was sent a Powerhub. Things went a little pearshaped on connection day and despite a message from Openreach saying I was connected, I had no internet. I called Vodafone that evening and tech support tried a few things including what they said was a firmware update. Eventually she said I should hang up and my service should start within the next hour. To my surprise, she was right and it started working.

However, I've been keeping a close eye on my router stats, hoping DLM was going to up my speed to some degree as I'm only just getting guaranteed speed but little more. I've noticed that it permanently shows PPP SESSION UPTIME - NO CONNECTION. This is surely not normal is it? I have only found one other mention of this on this forum but no solution, if indeed it is a problem.

So before I call C/S and no doubt spend hours messing about, can anyone offer any insight into this for me?

Thanks in advance.

I've been with Vodafone for 4+ years and to be honest I can't remember just when the SNR dropped/speed increased, but is happened in a couple of drops first from the default of 6.x to 4.x, and recently to 3.x, but no those drops didn't increase the speed by much.

Once again, I'm no real expert, but the figures on the BT checker probably reflect what has been experienced on the lines as much as simply the length of them.

@JayachJust wanted to say thank you. Somewhere in your comments you mentioned extension wiring and it stuck on my mind. So today I bit the bullet, grabbed a screwdriver and disconnected it all. Speed's have gone through the roof by comparison. I'm now getting speeds higher than BT's predicted high clean line suggestion for my property, whereas before I was only just higher than their lowest impacted line suggestion . Which confirmed my original suspicion that something wasn't right there too. Great result. Thanks again!

Well done, glad you were able to get the speed up. There is not many people left on DSL connections, but badly installed extinction wiring has always been a problem.

Give it a while, and the BT checker will probably reflect your higher speeds.

Despite living in a very popular and densely populated commuter town in Greater London, we still don't have a choice!

@Jayach Did you really mean "extinction"? 🤣

No, I didn't, and I really hadn't noticed I written that.

Still, I suppose with the end of DSL connections, extension wiring does face extinction.

@Jayach I'm waiting for my DSL to become "extinct". I'm not in a hurry given that there's always the risk of it going wrong somewhere. 😁
