Hi Guys,

after months and failed attempts to resolve I’ve stumbled across the PPPoe uptime which appears to correlate with interruptions in internet service.

1/ what is a typical figure

2/ should this cattle truck the internet radio?

kind regards dave

Thanks Jayach,

Taking your points in order we have

The internet radio stops, then the receiver gives up with that particular station and waits for you to choose another station or re-select the one that just has "failed" either way it disrupts the listening. This typically occurs 1 or twice a day.

The nest camera fails most days, being a cloud device it "knows" its been disconnected from the internet link to my house (not to the internet generally) so sends the email to my phone saying your nest camera is offline.

I am a vodafone client and pay about £46 per month for phone and home internet.

I believe my contract has expired so are just rolling on.

I've done some research about PPP uptime and attached are screenshots from a friends utility warehouse supplied router and service, the PPP uptime matches the router uptime. The difference in times is caused by my tardy screenshot ability.

Given the two investigations by openreach can we say the fault is with the vodafone servers? perhaps randomly loosing its authentication?

I think you are concentrating on PPP uptime too much. I don't doubt your friends PPP and router up times match. I'm pretty sure yours do too. I really think you are having line drop outs. I don't have the same router as you but my THG3000 records them as "no of cuts".

I asked if you were out of contract because changing ISP would be the best way of a) getting a new modem and b) eliminate the possibility of a problem at Vodafone's end. And if you are paying that price for Home phone (including calls?) plus FTTC broadband you could c) save money.

I have no faith in Vodafone's ability to cure an intermittent fault and unless Openreach are testing just at the time it occurs they wont find it either. They would have to set up a monitor to have any chance of catching it.

You could also recontract to Vodafone and get the latest router for £22.95 a month or £30.95 including calls and an Apple 4K TV box. Of course you would be stuck with them for another 2 years and won't have eliminated the line and Vodafone's servers.

Trying to track down intermittent faults that occur once or twice a day is always difficult which is why I think changing as much as possible is the best way to go.

Thanks Jayach,

I’ve been doing more research on Vodafone’s behalf as they won’t tell me .

My other friends PPP uptime was 23 hours ...

My question still remains ,

what is a typical PPP uptime for Vodafone?

Attached the latest evidence from my property.

I’ll carry on gathering info (whilst trying not to wast my time) as I’ve already  invested many man days, and not achieved resolution.

Please monitor your installation for comparison.

Very  poor Vodafone.

I hadn't looked for ages as the last time that I did so it was over 90 days, but today the screen shows "1 day, 12 hours, 3 minutes and 34 seconds". I've just looked at the logs and there is 3~4 mins of entries about it trying to connect.

I have attached the log of the event.

Well, up until yesterday my uptime on Vodafone, but using my own equipment was just under 7 weeks!  The only reason it ended yesterday were actions that I took.  I've no reason to believe that if you were using the VF modem/router and there were no issues that it would be anything less!

Thanks Keith, and Cynric,

Attached shows what the error log captures, it would appears to be an event in itself as opposed to a reaction to something else (is this what vodafone call capacity management?)

The error occurred yesterday at the following time (that i noticed)

01:58

07:56

17:02

17:54

21:36

21:46

Surely someone from vodafone must understand what is causing this?, could this really be the router?

I learnt something interesting which is that if i leave the Denon receiver untouched after the internet fails, it will, after about 15 minutes, recover but decides to "tune" to the next station on the favourites list. I assume this is sensible as far as it is concerned as the last "station" failed, so it does'nt even try with that one.

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks for sending that across and trying everything you have so far @Dave_strava - Connection time can be dependent on the line, and I'd advise we run some tests to see why you're experiencing these drops and try to resolve them.

Drop us a message on social media with your landline/account number and link back this forum thread, along with your forum username so that we can get this looked into 🔍

have tried to drop you a message on social media, but it failed, another 25 minutes wasted

please contact me

Attached details of this evening ‘s failure.

route forward please

Hi @Dave_strava Sorry to hear you have had issues contacting us, we don`t have account access here on the forum, if you could try again on social media or the other forms of contact in the link provided by Evie, you mentioned it failed when you tried to contact us, can I ask what was happening?
