Speed down 30% and regular disconnections - Looking to try alternative router. Settings needed?

Hi there,

I've been having both speed and disconnection issues for a couple of months now.

- dropped from about 35mb to 21mb

- Router disconnects randomly. Sometimes fine for a few days, then some days several disconnections. Sometimes it's been 3/4 times in an hour.

I have spoken to customer services earlier this week, did the usual of asking to connect to the master socket underneath the faceplate for 24hrs.  Did this, no further comms from them and no improvement.

I also took the opportunity to get my VF broadband username and password details from them while I was on the live chat.

I have a slightly older VDSL router which I used when I first moved into this property 2 years ago.  At that time, I was with TalkTalk and the line synced constantly at 50mb.   Since moving to VF, it's never been more than 35mb - I signed up to Superfast 2 hoping to get back to 50mb but it never has and therefore I'm getting the discount.

I thought I'd try using this router to see if anything improves.  Also, it maintains a much better log than the VF router (which seems to only record events over the last 24hrs) so I can't easily keep track of disconnections using the standard router.

If I look in the setup for the connection, I see a few settings I don't seem to find consistent answers for, so looking to see if I can get some advice.

DSL Modulation type: VDSL

Vlan ID: 101

Connection type: PPPoE

U/name: dslxxx

P/word: xxx

Authentication Type: Auto_Auth (options PAP, CHAP, MS-CHAP)

MTU: 1492

Full Cone NAT: disabled

SPI Firewall: enabled

IGMP Proxy: enabled

Use IP specified by ISP: disabled

Echo Request Interval: 30 secs

Is there anything here obviously wrong or I'm missing - as I can't get it to connect?

Any tips appreciated.  Even if this makes zero difference to sync speed I'd like to at least try to keep track of disconnections better.

Thanks

Thanks mate, looks like MTU was the issue, doesn't connect at 1492 but does at default of 1480.

Same speed, but at least I can monitor the disconnects better now,  :Smiling:
