hHi,
Is anyone else experiencing limitations with VPN usage on the Ultra Hub? I've found that the Ultra Hub has a rather restrictive set of settings. After extensive testing with third-party routers and spending countless hours with Vodafone's unhelpful tier-one and tier-two technical support, I discovered a 10Mbps upload limitation for VPNs. This is in stark contrast to my line's capability, which can go up to 70Mbps. When using an Asus router, I easily achieved the 70Mbps upload speed with a VPN. I've tested this with multiple high-quality VPN providers like ProtonVPN, and various protocols and TCP/UDP settings.
It's clear that the issue is neither with my line nor with VPN providers, but seems to be with the Ultra Hub's settings or limitations. I'm wondering if this is a device-specific issue or a general issue stemming from Vodafone's router setup.
In any event, if you value flexibility in your router settings, I'd recommend avoiding the Ultra Hub. It's simply not good value for the price. And don't get me started on their customer care; it's woefully inadequate. It almost feels like they genuinely don't care about providing a good service.
TIA

It's not the hub but the device creating the tunnel! VPNs can require a large amount of processing, which especially when used for streaming can have a ridiculous effect on the throughput. The slowest device I have for creating a VPN tunnel is the laptop I'm using now. After that it's the Asus router that can manage a couple of hundred Mbps through a tunnel - but after a couple of minutes will start to throttle due to temps. Fastest though are a couple of mobile phones and a single board computer which thanks to having hardware assist see no decrease in their speeds when creating a VPN connection.

You are wrong. The same 10mbps apply even without VPN when I am using Apple relay. Is just a useless router when nobody from Vodafone knows how to manage

Apple relay causes all sorts of problems, and not just with the Ultra router.
I doubt it is a useless router, but overly locked down by Vodafone (same as the THG3000) yes.

I don't have the Ultra hub, and like yourself, I think the price premium to get it is extortionate.
However, I can't see why using the Ultra hub will have any more effect on VPN's than does the THG3000.

One reason could MTU. Nobody can edit MTU bs any other router. Even Vodafone said can’t edit MTU

True, you can't edit the MTU of the connection, but you can edit the MTU of the VPN tunnel.

True, but this isn’t always available and is a workaround that adds more complexity. Also we don’t know if it’s MTU. That’s what I am asking if others have the same issue.

@macgalileo Whose VPN are you using? Have you changed the router DNS settings away from the Vodafone DNS? Have you turned off IPv6 in the router?

Nord, proton , open vpn with my sever, two company servers and yes I tried with different DNS and IPv6
