You should be able to use your router on Gigafast, The lack of modem mode in the Vodafone router is no problem, as Gigafast (FTTP) doesn't use a modem.

First question, are you on Cityfibre or Openreach?

I thought as much, I'm pretty sure I'm with vf/cityfibre I have set the vlan to 911 but I simply cannot get it to connect to the Internet..

Hi @asusam I understand how important it is to have a stable connection, especially now. If you're using a third party router our Gigafast teams troubleshooting options are limited in regards to any tests they can run on their side as those tests are set up for our routers. However, there is no harm in giving them a call on 0333 3040 191 to see if they can give any advice.

Hi asusam, I recently also purchased the exact same gaming router. However I don't have cityfibre. My house is connected via openreach. However I can confirm that once I got the username and password from Vodafone and right vlan.

When setting up I selected other when asked about provider with DSL and inputted Vodafone details via pppoe connection and I'm currently connected.

May sound silly but on the back of the router make sure your DSL cable is connected if you have one in right slot. I originally had it on the right then I realised I had it in the wrong port and was the left one. Good luck.

I finally managed to get it working, I couldn't use the app to get it working, I had to use the vodafone router ethernet 1 port and use the pppoe details from Vodafone, 911 code for vlan and quick setup via the asus ip address and reboot..

Talk about a faff but we getting consistent 900-1gb speeds from cable and 500-800 through WiFi 6

Not sure I understand. If you are saying you still have the Vodafone router connected and the Asus running from one of it's LAN ports, then it is the Vodafone router doing the authentication and the Asus will be running double NAT'd.

I had to use the vodafone router initially just to run broadband through the asus router, so I could log into the asus.router settings to be able to configure the pppoe and vlan settings as the mobile app simply wouldn't not work. Vodafone router is now unplugged and packed away. For what ever reason I could only use the quick start through the gui to get the settings to stick as manually changing them would not allow the broadband to work at all.

Thanks makes sense now. It's strange you were unable to log into the Asus without connecting it to the Vodafone router. I'm not at all familiar with the Asus app.

Asus routers do have an annoying habit of replacing 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.50.1 (their commonly used subnets) with router.asus.com

You can turn this off in the router web admin near the bottom of the Administration> System page (so say the lazy person who has his set up to respond to just router/ instead!).

*I've probably lost several hours to this annoyance over the years!

The issue of not being able to set up the router using the App?  It can be done, despite being badly broken, especially on those routers using the 192.168.80.x/24 subnet!
