Hi all, ive got a 200mb fttp service, ive setup pfsense and for a week or so i will get full speed using speedtest.net.

Then all of a sudden it will drop to 90mbs. It will stay like this even if i power cycle the ONT. The only thing that seems to sort it, is plugging in the vodafone router and letting that connect, then disconnecting it and plugging back in my pfsense router. This will be fine again for a while and then will go slow again. It has only started doing this in the last 5ish months.

Does anyone have and ideas of things i can look into please?

Many thanks

Trev

@gotty101 Cycling the ONT will not do anything. What, if anything, does the router logs show?

Hi Thank you for the reply,

So it was down again to 90mbs. As always I leave my pfsense instance up and running. Take the wan cable from pfsense and plug it into the vodafone router and let it connect. Then once it has i plug it back into my pfsense router and let the connection come back up. once connected, i do a speed test and its back to 200odd

In the past i have tried from within pfsense disconnecting the pppoe connection and reconnecting, but this does not bring the speed back up.

Ive looked at the logs but cant see anything at the moment, ill keep an closer eye on the speed and as soon as it drops down again i will check incase there is any log entries of interest.

Ive not got any vpn tunnels setup or anything that i imagen could cause such slowness.

@gotty101 Is PfSence loaded onto a Unix/Linux or in a dedicated box?

Hi thank for the reply. It's a dedicated box.

It's a intel G4500 with about 8gb of ram. It's running pf sense community edition 2.7.2

It's was last rebooted 31 days ago when I updated a package.

@gotty101 OK, that wipes out some FreeBSD hints. So I don't think I am going to be much help, sorry about that.
