Adding phones to house after upgrade to Digital Voice

Hi…

Can anyone help me with this? I’m not very techy so bear with me.

I recently changed to Vodafone broadband/landline from BT. It has changed to digital voice so I now only have one working phone (attached to my router). I asked the engineer how I can use my other phones and she didn’t have a clue. I basically want one more phone upstairs so I don’t have to keep running up & down the stairs. I got an RJ11 as suggested on here..plugged it into the socket and it didn’t work. Is it even possible? It’s the only thing that has annoyed myeloma by changing as it appears to be that you can mow only have one phone? Is this correct? If so why aren’t customers being told about this before changing? I really think that this is going to open a big can of worms if it can’t be sorted easily. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

It's not VF who is solely responsible for the demise of analogue phones, it's an industry wide change and VF purchase their line capacity from the wholesale providers who are making this change.

For reference; https://www.gov.uk/guidance/uk-transition-from-analogue-to-digital-landlines

In that case you are definately on FTTP (Fibre To The Property, also known as Full Fibre).

The box is known as the ONT (Optical network terminal)

All your original BT/Openreach telephone cabling is now redundant, and so it would be an easy job to connect it into the TEL socket on the router so you could continue to use the extension sockets, but it will need someone with the ability to make or buy the correct cable/adapter.

If you are unable to find someone to do that job then DECT will still be the best option for you.

You make a very good point.   I think now there is an assumption by providers that NOBODY actually NEEDS a landline.   This is of course, rubbish as there are plenty of areas (including around here) where mobile coverage is patchy also if you need international calls (as in my case) it is considerably cheaper for someone in (say) Europe to phone a landline than a mobile.

Unfortunately ISPs seem to have accepted this fact very begrudgingly, and offer precious little in the way of support if you want a landline, other than to provide a means of connecting a single phone to the router.   I have found this forum invaluable to fill in the information that SHOULD be available from Vodafone but is not.
