Hi,
Please could you help me?
Had a new fibre/landline connection installed and have a Vodafone Power Hub Wifi 6 Hub. The internet is working fine, all lights green on the back (inc telephone). Have checked all cables, reset the box several times, and Vodafone confirm my landline is fully activated. I have a phone connected but its an "analogue" phone. (My brother has an analogue phone connected to his BT Fibre router without problem btw). Here's my problem:
*I can call my landline on my mobile and you can hear it ringing, but the lines are dead. No dialtone on the handset.
* Vodafone have confirmed the phone line is fully activated. They've also "rang the router" and have observed a flashing green light.
* Their advice is that you need to upgrade your phone to a "digital phone".
My ask to the forum is - is this right? There was no mention of this when I took out the contract and zero mention of it in the manual for the router. The guy from Openreach said that our phones should be fine. The lady from Vodafone said the phone (despite it being a brand new analogue phone bought from Amazon only needs to be upgraded to a "digital phone". There was uncertainty though, they really were not sure if there was a fault still on the line, despite it being fully activated. When you call the line, the green "phone" light flashes on the back of the router - so it's just the phones that are not working.
Please may I ask for some advice? Has anyone else had this problem? Would the solution be a "digital phone"???
Thanks a lot
Julian

What Vodafone have told you is completely wrong.
Any phone that will work when connected to a standard BT telephone socket will work when connected to the TEL sockets on the Vodafone routers.
One possible reason you are having problems may be the way you are connecting your phone to the router, so how are you doing that?

Thanks for your reply, i was also skeptical.
The phone is a Gigatel analogue phone, brand new.
Its connected using a BT to RJ11 adapter into the Tel1 port on the back of the router. Have tried different ports, different cables and a different phone. All are dead with no dialtone. They obviously can't make or receive calls due to this, but the hub reacts to an incoming call as the green "phone" light flashes on the back.
Could the router be faulty?

It's not impossible for the router to be faulty, but I think it unlikely.
I'm inclined to suspect your adapter, where did you get it? If you contact Vodafone and ask them to send you a "VoIP adapter" (their name. not mine) they should do so, just why they don't include it I don't know. (unless yours was supplied by Vodafone)
Live chat is probably the easiest way. https://vodafone.uk/4cSq9ty
Just what model of phone do you have, and has it been tested on a standard connection?

Maybe it is an iffy router?
The new phone is a Gigaset pure 120 cordless phone. I have tried this phone plus two slightly older Bt decor phones using the BT to RJ11 adapter, plus also an RJ11 to RJ11 cable directly into tel1 or tel2 ports. Everything is dead.
Would you say its more likely a hardware issue vs a line fault as the hub's phone light is flashing when i call it, but it seems to just not be sending any signal to any phones. Vodafone seem to think its a line fault.....

It is Impossible to be a line fault, If it's FTTP you don't have a line, if FTTC then a line fault would result in no broadband at all. (which do you have, by the way?)
If it is a hardware fault then yes the router is favourite, but I'd like to see a different adapter tried, as the DSL cable alternative doesn't always work as some phone use a different pair of pins at the phone end.

Hi, thanks for reply. I dont know what you mean re Fttp/Fttc, but what i can tell you is broadband internet is working fine, all lights lit on the back (inc phone) and phone led flashes when you try and call it. I will try a different Bt/Rj11 adaptor from amazon.

They are free from Vodafone, can be a bit difficult getting then to understand what you want. The order button has never worked.

Update
- So I've tried the Rhinocables RJ11 to BT socket - that didn't work. Plus I've tried 3 different analogue phones (one of which is brand new Gigaset Pure 120) - none of these work. I've tried them with and without a RJ11 to BT adapter, plus also on 2 RJ11toRJ11 cables (one of which was supplied with the router). None work. You can see people ringing the phone as the green light is flashing on the back of the router, but all phones are dead.
- I've spent almost 2hrs on the phone to Vodafone today. They have logged it and are investigating but it feels to me that I could have a dodgy router. That's where the problem is.
- They also are peddling the line about needing a "digital voice" phone. I told them to send me details of a guaranteed compatible "digital voice" phone, they can't. The lady I spoke to even went on amazon to reco a phone to buy and it turned out to be a Panasonic cordless phone, almost the same as my Gigaset.
- They won't send me a new router and won't send an engineer. It looks to me like I'm going to have to cancel it as I'm within my 14 days, and try someone else (now that the fibre line has been installed by Openreach)....unless a miracle happens!!
Does anyone else have any ideas??? This is really tough!!
Thanks a lot and also thanks to everyone that's replied so far.

If you're going to buy another from Amazon make sure it's this one - proved to work
