My Landline has gone off this morning and has not come back on, I done all the checks on cabling and connections, rebouted my router, etc. I am suspecting it is those GiGa People who have been digging up the whole of South Buckinhamshire since January, excavating 1 meter wide trenches and laying fibre 1 meter deep.. They have been disrupting traffic continually around High Wycombe where I live. So I am thinking it is best to get a line check to confirm where the issue is !
How do I get a basic line check without having to spend all day on the phone?

You say the landline has gone off. Is the broadband still working?
If the broadband is working, does a speedtest still show what you would expect?
Are you on FTTP or FTTC?
If you want to report a fault call 08080 034 515, early in the morning should reduce the waiting time.

Also check the router lights, see if the white "phone" one is lit. It's possible you could have been moved to Digital Voice without being notified, and the works on your street is just a coincidence.

I have FTTC and the broadband is still working with normal speeds. I think the help number you quoted was just what I was needing as my broadband and speed has not been affected. I tried the TOBi call before receiving your advice. Whilst it takes forever to make progress TOBi did conclude that Openreach must be instructed to sort my issue. I got a a Fault Ref and an FLT ticket and told to wait 48 hours for action.
However within less an hour of receiving the FLT ticket the phone was back working again. All fixed in the background with no contact from Openreach. Whether I have been switched to Digital Voice or not, I have no idea, It just sounds the same to me !

If you had been switched to digital voice, you would need to connect the phone(s) into the router, so no, not digital voice.
