VOIP landline only partly working - I can hear callers, they can't hear me

Hi, I've read through other posts on here and can't see the same issue, but apologies if it's been covered already.

Recently renewed my Vodafone home broadband contract and have been moved on to a VOIP service for the landline. Using the same router as before, but was sent a VOIP adapter for the phone.

Picking up the phone to dial out (to my mobile) I get no dial tone, and while connecting there is no ringing tone. My mobile rings and shows my previous landline number.

Calling from my mobile to the landline, the phone rings but there is no caller ID shown (which is enabled in my account settings and was working before the move to VOIP).

During a call, the incoming (mobile) audio is audible on the phone but the outgoing (landline phone) audio is not coming through on the mobile.

The phone is a Swissvoice ePure DECT handset. It's connected to the Vodafone router TEL socket using the supplied VOIP adapter, but as this expects a BT phone plug and the phone cable has an RJ11 plug there is also an RJ11 to BT plug adapter that originally came with the phone. The RJ11 plugs on the cable look to have the middle two prongs wired. Can't tell what the RJ11 to BT adapter is doing but this worked previously with a standard line.

On the Vodafone router, the phone LED is lit and a phone shows connected in the router admin web interface.

I haven't raised direct with Vodafone yet; was hoping someone on here might have a bright idea that would save me hours on hold / in chat!

Thanks.

Thanks, I had looked through the forum but couldn't find the same issue - mostly not working at all or numbers not porting.

Took the plunge and tried VF chat and they fixed it pretty quickly. I've previously had some very long, circular, frustrating chats with support on other issues so they seem to have improved since then!

@jamesnor  Two things :-

1. Speak to VF it's quite possible that they have not setup the VOIP properly

2. Search the forum, there are a number of discussions about VOIP.

@jamesnor  A bit of good news.

While you're clearly in favour of the "computing gods", what are the numbers for tomorrow's lottery? 😂

Just out of interest, have you tried connecting the RJ45 from the phone directly into the router, without using the two adapters?

That's what I did initially, but later switched to use the VOIP adapter (and as a result the BT adapter) as that was what Vodafone recommend. Now it all seems to be working I've tried connecting directly and that seems to work too.

I thought it should. The only possible problem might have been the DECT phones not ringing, as the VoIP adapter may have a ring/bell capacitor. Most phones don't need it but some may.

Glad it's all working for you now.

And well done Vodafone for "being on the ball". Let's hope it continues.
