Solution

Moving to Vodafone - retaining (VoIP) 'landline' number?

Hi,

I'm thinking of returning to Vodafone Broadband after a stint with A N Other provider😊

When I moved to A N Other, I was offered a VoIP phone package, and had my PSTN landline number successfully ported over. This has been working fine to date. The VoIP provider is PhoneLine+.

Well, a few days ago I looked at what's on offer with Vodafone, and during the process asked to retain my (now VoIP) 'landline' number - only to be told "computer says no"😣

Is this really the case, or just that the initial 'look-see' can't work out the type of 'landline' number in use? If that's the case then what'll happen when we're all using VoIP services when the PSTN is finally closed down? No more landline transfers?

Hope someone can help!

Your current number will stay with Phoneline+, as they're a voip provider not an ISP. So you're not going to lose it.

Many thanks for the quick reply!

If moving back to Vodafone, will I just need a broadband package (without phone) and continue with the PhoneLIne+ 'contract'?

It's potentially messy, as the PhoneLine+ has been 'bundled' with the ISP's broadband package, so I'm unsure at the moment how to extricate just that bit when I terminate the BB contract😣

If it's bundled I'd assume not, but not 100%. Perhaps it's best to ask PhoneLine+ Customer Services. They could likely unbind it to pure voip - you could have your landline on your mobile if they'll do it.

Vodafone don't do broadband only, however you are not forced to use the telephone service supplied.
