THG3000G on FTTC - Upgrading Requires Digital Voice

Hi All,

My son's FTTC package with Vodafone has been out of contract for some time and while upgrading to FTTP isn't an option as he lives in a flat, it seems by looking at his account that he can "upgrade" to virtually the same FTTC speed he has now (around 30Mbps) but at a lower cost. It looks like this will require a switch to Digital Voice at no additional cost to keep his landline number which is OK. His router is a THG3000G so has the two TEL1 and TEL2 ports but looking in the router settings, there's nothing I can see to configure the phone side so do we assume that when he goes through the online upgrade, the router will detect that his account has now been switched and Digital Voice will magically become enabled, presumably after a router reboot?  Either that or would Vodafone send out a replacement router with Digital Voice pre-configured?  Has anyone else been through this process?

Digital Voice should activate automatically when the new service is provisioned. You don't get any access to the DV settings.

Occasionally a router reset is necessary to force the provisioning, but let's not worry about that just yet. It's also possible that he'll have to wait a few days for DV to go active, but again let's not worry just yet. Vodafone get it right first time in most cases.

Yes after the upgrade he will be on digital voice, and it is unlikely they will send a new router. Once upgraded he will need to connect his phone to either of the TEL sockets, and to do so will be much easier if has ha what Vodafone call a "voip adapter" which will enable the BT type plug on the phone lead to connect to the RJ11 TEL sockets. And yes it will probably need a router reset, I would recommend a factory reset.

Unfortunately Vodafone will probably forget to send the adapter, so he will have to ask for one, either when he upgrades or via live chat after.

Thanks for the feedback. As it happens I was in town this morning and popped into the Vodafone shop. They pretty much confirmed what you guys said so we'll kick off the upgrade and see what happens.  I'd expect to reboot the router but wouldn't a factory reset clear his account settings?

No, not his account settings, but will revert any changes he may have made, like passwords or Wi-Fi name. (SSID)

It will however force the router to get it's setting from Vodafone afresh. If you are worried, don't do the factory reset, unless he can't get the phone to work. Personally, after any change at Vodafone's end, I like to start afresh.

Hi Jayach.  I just placed the upgrade order online and it says they are shipping him an Intelligent WiFi hub as well as a VoIP adapter (see below) so a complete fresh start.

Your picture hasn't been moderated yet, but an "Intelligent WiFi hub" is the THG3000, the other 2 routers are the Power Hub and the Ultra Hub, so I doubt it will be sent, we will just have to wait and see.

Do let us know how he gets on.

Looking at the order again it does actually say "Powerhub Vodafone WiFi Hub" so will be interesting to see what turns up.

Sounds like you will get the new Power Hub. Vodafone-Power-Hub-Router
