I have just upgraded my broadband and Vodafone have upgraded me to VOIP which means my old phones no longer work. Can anyone recommend a 3/4 handset which will allow me to phone in and out using VOIP. I live in a 3 storey house and my router is on the bottom floor but we live on the second and third floors. I borrowed an old twin set phone and the base unit works but the other phone will only phone out it will not receive calls. Only the base unit will receive calls and can be answered. Vodafone are no help even if I can speak to them. They just at go out and buy new phones and Curry’s cannot say which phones will work and just say buy a set and try. However if they don’t work I cannot take them back if they have been opened.
Solved! Go to best answer.

Yes, you are on FTTC. (Fibre to the Cabinet)
Vodafone only seem to have started using digital voice with FTTC recently. although some of the other ISP's have been doing it for a while.
Most digital phone sets will be DECT (Digital enhanced cordless telecommunications) and will be the easiest way to get the phone service working with the Vodafone router with multiple handsets.
The problem you describe with the borrowed set sounds like a fault with the phones, nothing to do with it being used on the Vodafone router.

He was right (in a way) the phones won't be working over the internet. They will be connecting to the adapter in the Vodafone router. It is the adapter that will be working over the internet. They probably thought you meant connected to a LAN connection. For that you would need a VoIP phone.
The adapter is called an ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) and is built into the Vodafone router.
I'm sure the one's you bought will work fine, do you have a link to them?

These are the phones I bought https://www.currys.co.uk/products/panasonic-kxtgj424eb-cordless-phone-quad-handsets-10190170.html
I am sure that cheaper ones will work but there isn’t much choice when you want 4. They are up and running. All 4 phones ring and connect to each other. The added bonus of these is they can be used as an intercom which is handy for us on 3 floors as it saves shouting 😂. Also they can be used hands free which is handy for my wife when she is phoning and is in a queue. We are too old to keep on running up and down stairs 😩. Like all phones they aren’t easy to navigate. I use an iPhone which is much easier to use than cordless phones but of course an iPhone is more expensive than 10 quad sets 😂😂😂.

Glad to hear it is all working for you. I use an earlier Panasonic set. (only 2 handsets for me)
I've had it for many years and am still very happy with it. Doesn't have the call blocking/screening option, which sounds very useful.

Hi @Trophy92
Did you get the Automated Call Block to function?
(the feature that requires callers to enter an access code via their keypad before they are verified as “not an automated dialler” and your handsets start ringing)
I have these phones but callers responding with the correct code just hear the prompt twice before the call is disconnected.
Thanks

I can recommend a few 3/4 handset phones that will work with VoIP and are suitable for a 3-story house.
Grandstream GXP2170
YealinkT45P
Polycom VVX301
These phones all have excellent range and call quality, and they're all compatible with a wide range of VoIP providers, including Vodafone.
Or any of these VOIP Phones Are probably good enough

It's untested - if you're willing to give it a go and it works I'll add it to the list.
