I assume GigaCube is capable of DDNS since it's available in the settings, but I simply can not get it to work. Anyone had a similar problem and have a solution?

Hey @SaxonRix I hope you're well 😊 Have you spoken to the Gigacube team at all as they will be able to help with this? You can call them on 08080 408 408 🙂

Most ISPs assign a dynamic IP address to the router and you can use this IP address to access your router remotely. However, the IP address can change from time to time and you don’t know when it changes. In this case, you might apply the DDNS (Dynamic Domain Name Server) feature on the router to allow you and your friends to access your router and local servers (FTP, HTTP, etc.) using a domain name without checking and remembering the IP address. Restart and try this below steps again

Note: DDNS does not work if the ISP assigns a private WAN IP address (such as 192.168.1.x) to the router.

Note: TL-MR3420_V5 is used for demonstration in this article.

1. Visit tplinkwifi site, and log in with the password you set for the router. For details, please refer to How do I log into the web-based Utility (Management Page) of TP-Link wireless router?

2. Go to Advanced > Network > Dynamic DNS.

3. Select the DDNS Service Provider: NO-IP or DynDNS. If you don’t have a DDNS account, you have to register first by clicking Go to register. Then enter the username, password and domain name of your account.

4. Click Log In and Save.

The ISP cannot assign an IP address of your router. A local address is configured by the device itself, whether it be set by automatic dynamic change like DHCP, or a personally set static IP address.  These cannot be changed by the ISP.  Your ISP cannot change your local IP address.

If they can, then youve got a virus, because ive never known that in 25 years.

The only address that is changed dynamically by the ISP is the public IP address.  It will probably change when the device is rebooted or the router is restarted.
I agree yes, by using the option to host an address for your friends to connect works, but thats a public address, very much like a 3rd party company, like no-ip.com.

That service in itself is over 20 years old, and can be used without touching your router.  Only problem is if you dont use the service for over 30 days, you'll keep getting reminders that they'll turn the service off.  Thats how it used to work.  Nothings free.  It used to be, and a very similar service.

Im finding the answers in these forums very difficult to digest.  Damn
