WiFi issues Vodafone 5G Mobile Hotspot

Hi.

I have a Vodafone 5G Mobile Hotspot (the black one with the little screen) and I've noticed that devices on the 5.0GHz WiFi can't see the devices on the 2.4GHz WiFi (and the other way around).

Hey @nataloko I hope you're doing well 😊 To clarify, are you trying to see connected devices from your MiFi settings or are you connected to the Mi-Fi on your phone for example and trying to see other connected devices?

You would only be able to see other connected devices through the MiFi settings and not via individual devices. 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz are also different frequencies so you wouldn't see a device connected to the 5Ghz band whilst using a device on the 2.4Ghz band even if you could view connected devices from an already connected device if that makes sense 🙂

Hi Steph,

So 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks are not bridged between themselves? But they are both connected to the wired interface?

I've had routers in the past that allow isolated AP's but as an option, not a default (apparently fixed) setting.

To add some details of my testing:

Device A - on 2.4GHz wifi

Device B - on 5GHz wifi

Device C - on wired ethernet (same results through the usb interface)

Ping B from A -> fail

Ping A from B -> fail

Ping C from A (or B) -> ok

Ping A (or B) from C -> ok

Thank you for taking the time to pop that all over @nataloko The information I previously provided was what I was told upon speaking to one of my support teams but I don't want to misadvise or cause any confusion so my best advice would honestly be to speak to our Mobile Broadband Tech teams on either 0333 304 0191 or via LiveChat here: vodafone.uk/2LCJiTm as they are specialised in dealing with all things mobile Wi-Fi related and they would be in a much better position to answer all of your questions and concerns.
