Bt master socket

We had our bt master socket fitted today. They put it behind the tv which currently isn’t on the wall and we were maybe going to put it on the wall. However with the tv on the wall the socket will be quite an eyesore. Would I be able to move it down a few inches so it’s behind our tv cabinet?

Hi @Ewinstone. In terms of us at Vodafone, we're unable to process a master socket relocation for cosmetic purposes. This can only be requested by us for service impacting reasons like:

- Service showing poor performance in a house that would benefit from a relocation (fault ticket required)
- The wall where the master socket is currently is being demolished due to home renovations
- The master socket has been installed in a place that is clearly not appropriate, i.e. under a sink

That’s fair enough, but could I just pop it off the wall and move it a few inches lower myself as the cable is only external so I’d only be moving the actual socket

@Ewinstone I moved the master socket about 3 inches down a wall in my old house so I could fit a cupboard around it. I never had any issues and the engineer didn't care when I later had fibre installed. I've also taken the master socket off the wall in my parent's house to allow for decorating, and again not had any issues there.

The master socket is owned by Openreach though and technically you're not supposed to touch it (beyond plugging a router in) so be aware that if you do happen to damage it in any way whilst attempting to move it you will have to pay for the engineer repair yourself,  last I checked this (a few years ago now) was somewhere around £150 + an hourly rate, though it may have gone up since.
