Credit Check Issues

Just tried signing up for a broadband service via Chat (keeping my existing provider however having an additional line with Vodafone) - No issues doing this so I selected the service.

ID checks all went through however after the credit check I could only be offered a lower service.

I was somewhat confused as I know I have a high credit score, so declined signing up and have chosen to challenge the credit check (now a 10 day wait)

My next step has been Experian, which shows a credit band of 'Excellent' and a credit score of '999'

I don't know how long it takes for this mornings credit check to show up with Experian, but I'm worried its going to affect my score.

Has anyone had any similar issue(s)? - wondering how quickly it got resolved (if it got resolved) etc. etc.

I can only think my data was inputted incorrectly otherwise nothing computes.

Hello, @rovingrover. I hope you're well. I understand that it can be disappointing to not be able to take out the service you want due to a credit check. An excelled credit store doesn't always guarantee an acceptance, as it can be down to the amount of credit which has been taken out in your name, and then based on the relevant affordability checks. As you've mentioned that you've completed the Credit Check Appeal, they'll complete a thorough check for you and get back to you as soon as they can with the result.

All sorted, gone to an alternative CityFibre provider (Which recommended) spoke to an actual person, all ticked up and site visit / installation within 10 working days 🙂

Are you sure it's the credit check causing you to be offered a lower service?

What service have you currently got? (FTTC or FTTP)

What were you hoping to get, and what were you offered?

We are looking for resiliency when working from home. 

We currently have FTTC with Virgin, no issues, but like a lot of things there's potential to have problems. 

CityFibre have recently rocked up, so we thought we'd choose Vodafone from the list of providers.

Both different infrastructures.

@rovingrover I don't think that is going to be a long term solution as the FTTC equipment is being removed.

Thanks Cynric, didn't know that.

Hopefully whatever the transition will be, it will all be managed efficiently by the provider .... and the redundancy of having two lines avoids any hiccups.

@rovingrover says they are using Virgin. That is either full fibre or (more likely) coaxial cable.

It won't be going anywhere soon.

Virgin media used to deliver over fttc to areas that aren't cabled up or don't have fttp. I presume the OP took out their VM deal while fttc was available (in some places it still is).

I think its coax to the T Junction outside the house/pavement. From there back to the Cab I wouldn't know.

I've been with Virgin since 2015.
