IF YOU ARE USING A THIRD-PARTY ROUTER THAT WORKS 100% WITHOUT BUGS.PLEASE PM ME THE MAKE AND MODEL SO I CAN UPDATE THE LIST

The first thing you need to do is ask Vodafone for your username and password. live chat with Vodafone is best because you can copy and paste the name and password into the router. ( some users did write it down wrong. password is lower and upper case. username watch out for zero and o )

https://www.vodafone.co.uk/contact-us/index.htm

https://www.vodafone.co.uk/bbservcd/

FTTC SETTING         ( FTTP is below FTTC)

The setting is the same for all the routers it's down to the isp (the setting page will be laid out differently but the setting are still the same, eg

Vodafone setting are

Vlan ID - 101

enable 802.1q (not on every router)

Username  - ******@broadband.vodafone.co.uk

Username - ******@businessbroadband.vodafone.co.uk  ( for business customers )

Password - ********

PPPoE

MTU Size : 1492

rest of the setting auto detect when the router and the dslam are negotiating with each other

TP-Link Archer VR400 V3 AC1200 Wireless MU-MIMO Dual Band (1st Advanced tab, change the Operation Mode to Wireless Router Mode (the ONT is acting as a modem, hence it will not work if you are in DLS Modem Router Mode). 2nd  Do not enable VLAN ID or it will not work! Vodafone will tell you to set it to 101, if you do this it will not work! Keep the default MTU size (1480), do not change it to 1492, as suggested in several posts in this thread, or it will not work!.

I'm glad that you have it working and that you think the WiFi is better for you, but I wouldn't be using an old router that doesn't get any support from it's manufacturer (ie no firmware updates).

There's a reason it was only £8

BTW these are still on sale on Amazon, the latest Firmware i`ve downloaded is Jan 2022 so not wildly out of date yet and the unit is definitely not locked down, however i`m not going to faff around with it and i`ll leave well alone for now,

The ZyXel VMG3925-B10C can be problematic in a couple of ways.  Several ISPs have supplied them to their users, some of them overly locked down such that the firmware cannot be updated.
They're also like most Zyxel modem/routers horrific if you try to use them in modem mode.  In modem mode, they still use their memory to provide a buffer that can cause buffer bloat and QOS issues on slow connections!

There's a new(ish) firmware for that Zyxel, I know because I have one. Over the holidays I may take risk of installing it. I'll lookup the revision number and post it.

Right here is the revision name "V5.13(AAVF18)C0". The current one I have installed  is "V5.13(AAVF.13)J1".

"V5.13(AAVF.13)J1"  is also on the one i`m running with, so far so good

I tried using one of these when my Draytek Vigor 130 first started playing up.  The one I bought off eBay for about £5 was an ex John Lewis model.  While the firmware was standard and all the connection settings were available and editable, the firmware update was locked.  With the issue of it adding buffering to the WAN connection, I couldn't be bothered to dismantle it, solder on the serial header and hard-update it that way (see forums.kitz.co.uk)!

The supplied voda routers are garbage.  Cheap far east manufactured and the components inside interfere with some of my hi-fi equipment (I get an annoying hum through my turntable preamp).  Replaced with my trusty TP-Link W9980 router and the hum is gone.  IP6 doesn't work with mentioned router.

@bar72 Xenophobic comment aside, VF hardware has been sourced from various suppliers.

IP6 doesn't yet work on any router because it has only recently started to be rolled out. If you are on a connection with IP6 then you are lucky, or possibly not as it may have teething problems. Also IP6 does not mean faster, it's just a different protocol over the same backbone.

When I used a THG3000 I didn't get and EMF interference, but I do remember one other person also noticing something. It suggests you may have a faulty router.

And where do you think the TD-W9980 was manufactured?
