IF YOU ARE USING A THIRD-PARTY ROUTER THAT WORKS 100% WITHOUT BUGS.PLEASE PM ME THE MAKE AND MODEL SO I CAN UPDATE THE LIST

The first thing you need to do is ask Vodafone for your username and password. live chat with Vodafone is best because you can copy and paste the name and password into the router. ( some users did write it down wrong. password is lower and upper case. username watch out for zero and o )

https://www.vodafone.co.uk/contact-us/index.htm

https://www.vodafone.co.uk/bbservcd/

FTTC SETTING         ( FTTP is below FTTC)

The setting is the same for all the routers it's down to the isp (the setting page will be laid out differently but the setting are still the same, eg

Vodafone setting are

Vlan ID - 101

enable 802.1q (not on every router)

Username  - ******@broadband.vodafone.co.uk

Username - ******@businessbroadband.vodafone.co.uk  ( for business customers )

Password - ********

PPPoE

MTU Size : 1492

rest of the setting auto detect when the router and the dslam are negotiating with each other

TP-Link Archer VR400 V3 AC1200 Wireless MU-MIMO Dual Band (1st Advanced tab, change the Operation Mode to Wireless Router Mode (the ONT is acting as a modem, hence it will not work if you are in DLS Modem Router Mode). 2nd  Do not enable VLAN ID or it will not work! Vodafone will tell you to set it to 101, if you do this it will not work! Keep the default MTU size (1480), do not change it to 1492, as suggested in several posts in this thread, or it will not work!.

Not without an external modem.

Hi folks

Haven't been on the voda forum in ages so hi again.😊

Faffing about here with two different vodafone hubs and now I see that it appears Voda will give your login deets so you can use your own router...is this correct? Last time I looked into this,  it was a big no-no.😮

Also, if this is the case will a Billion BiPAC 7800DXL work? I have a FTTC connection but very rural and I'm at the end of a line in the sticks so it hovers about 7Mb. Just would be interested to see if a change of router would help any.

The newer Voda router was driving me nuts with all wifi devices continually getting disconnected so I went back to the older Connect hub. It's now acting up so I've chucked the newer one back on today and done a full reset and so far this evening it's behaved itself.

Still wouldn't mind giving the Billion a go if it might work?

Thanks in advance 🙂

The Billion BiPAC 7800DXL is an ADSL router, so it won't work with an FTTC (VDSL) connection.  While it was popular back in its day, it's also a pretty old piece of kit!

Cheers for the reply! Yes.. It's an oldie but gosh it cost the big bucks back in the day!

I wanted to tweak the SNR if I recall... my line was horrific and without the tweaks I was at 0.25 and I was able to force it to  nearly 1Mb and with a reset of the line every so often it would just about keep me online.

My area isn't due an upgrade until the end of 2022 at the earliest.... I'm so envious of all your fast speeds 😁

Thanks again!

If you look on some of the home networking sites, the more modern Billion modem/routers are still a firm favourite - for that very reason of being able to tinker with the SNR.

I may be totally wrong  but I was under the impression that no router can tinker with fttc snr margins. I remember this being big with adsl . If i could find a router that can change the snr in fttc i would go and buy it right away .

I used it on my line pre-FTTC to tinker with SNR. Just had queried on here about using that router now but have been informed it's an ADSL router so in the junk tech box in the attic it will remain 😁

The Vodafone hub is actually behaving very well since a hard reset, no devices dropping off WiFi since 👍

At the end of the day, the minimum SNR margins are set by the cabinet, but some modems will attempt to force a specific SNR.  If you try to raise the SNR for greater stability, the cabinet will just let you get on with it.  When you attempt to lower the SNR (faster speeds) the cabinet will take it as a starting point - provided you've not previously triggered a harsh DLM.

It really is just playing in the margins.  The other advantage of some third-party modems is that you get access to far better reporting, so if something is going wrong you can see where!

It's more sprinkles than satanic magic!

Hello, I've been following this for a while.

Had issues with Vodafone Broadband from beginning

Long story short... bought the technicolor tg589vac of eBay but siven installing it it has gone worse.

WiFi keeps dropping off every 30 min or so and my speed has dropped from 60-70 mb to 40mb.

Am k doing something wrong. Is there any setting I need to adjust or... It's driving me crazy as Vodafone Broadband support are kind of useless.

Re: the speed I've had a BT engineer had a look at the cabinet outside somewhere a few days ago and the speed went back up to 70mb for like a day but the WiFi disconnections kept happening. Next day speed it back down to 40mb and WiFi disconnections are even worse: can't watch a movie on Netflix or listen to radio online.

Is it something to do with the devices that use the WiFi? We have an iPad, a Dell laptop 2 mobile phones: OnePlus Nord and Pixel 4A, a Now TV stick and 2 security indoor cameras all the time connected to the WiFi.

Please help if anyone has any suggestions.

Thanks

It's an old router, the newest models being about 6years old, and from memory, it has a tendency to slowly cook itself!

If you've reset the router to its default settings, then entered your connection details, and it's failing in a different manner to the VF router, then I'd suspect that the router has had its day!

*Even the V3 version of the tg589vac is actually of a lower spec than the old VF HHG2500, and often users had difficulty in connecting by WiFi to anything not in the same room as the router.
