Power Hub says my Moto phone is a Google Pixel

On the Power Hub admin, overview page, it shows a list of the devices connected to the hub, on both 2.4Ghz and 5GHz. My mobile phone, which is a Moto Edge 50 Pro shows up but the hub says it's a Google Pixel 6a. I'm certain I'm looking at the right entry because if I switch off WiFi on the phone the entry disappears immediately and it reappears when I switch it on again. So, the hub is incorrectly identifying my phone.

Okay, this is not a serious problem but why is it happening?

A lot of devices like routers use the MAC addresses to identify connected devices. However, the advent of random MAC addresses on wifi devices has totally messed that up.

@DaveR28  To expand on what @Ripshod said, part of the MAC address identifies the manufacturer.

Thanks Ripshod and Cynric. As it happens I turned off randomised MAC address on my phone just the other day as the Vodafone broadband app said to do it to improve device recognition. Obviously it hasn't helped (or maybe I need to restart the phone, can't remember if I did that).

Just checked again, randomised MAC was still on so I turned it off and now the broadband app just says it's a "device". My other phone is correctly identified but not this Edge 50 Pro. No big deal.
