Router Unresponsive

Our router keeps becoming unresponsive and our alarm system keeps switching to mobile backup.

We have a remote terminal we can use but when we try to load up the router homepage (192.168.1.1) we get an error saying "The connection was reset"

Most of our volunteers are away for the summer and it's a massive pain in the bum top keep asking people to go into the building to reboot the router.

How is the remote terminal set up?  An improperly set up remote terminal can attract break-in attempts, which even if unsuccessful can slow things down or even cause your router to ignore genuine access attempts.
