Please explain exactly what the "whitelist" is and its purpose in full. Thank you

Hi

Please explain your whitelisting question context.

BlackListing is hopefully obvious.

WhiteListing for a HP laptop is the Wi-Fi module that can be fitted to work within a country and within that countries Wi-Fi regulations.  EG:

An Intel may be better spec but not whitelisted, whereas a Broadcomm is listed.

Fit an Intel and fail to communicate.

In this context I guess it is about advertising revenue.  For instance if you go to the party play website and click on the terms and conditions you get a small bit that says...

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years of age to visit the Site and use the Service. If you do not so qualify, you are prohibited from accessing or using the Service.

5. User conduct

Partyplay may, at any time, monitor, review, remove, retain or disclose any information as necessary to satisfy any applicable law, regulation, legal process or governmental request or investigation (including law enforcement). Partyplay is not responsible for any failure or delay in removing any such content.

Therefore I regard that as an adult site and could/should be legitimately blocked.

*For reference we are all now supposed to be using "allowlist/passlist" and "denylist/blocklist".

Allow-lists really are as selective as they sound - if you are not on the list you are not getting through, though they can be categorized.

Performing Rights Management is a minefield!  PRS which collects royalties for its members does it's best, but the regulation across Europe is still VERY uneven with each individual country regulating independently!
