Hi everyone,
I'm been trying to setup my Asus Rapture GT-AX11000 for hours with not success. My setup is as follows:
- Vodafone (VF) router switched off.
- Asus router plugged in and switched on.
- ethernet cable plugged into ONT box and other end plugged into Asus router WAN port (blue port).
- Ethernet cable works with VF router so no issue there.
- Asus router using latest firmware as of today: 3.0.0.4.386_49599
- I've reset the router about 3 times using a PIN and tried the below configuration everytime.
- Broadband is my broadband superfast 100 fibre
I've done the following so far:
- Got my PPPoE username and password, and confirmed that they're correct with 2 VF support people.
Username: dsl<9 digit number>@broadband.vodafone.co.uk
Password: <8 string password>
- I was also allocated a static IP address and got the confirmation email. I also confirmed the address is assign by checking the VF router and googling whats my IP.
I've tried setting up the connection using the PPPoE, Static IP and Automatic IP on the Asus WAN setup page using the following settings:
Static IP:
-------------
Basic Config:
- Enable WAN: yes
- Enable NAT: yes
- NAT Type: Symmetric
- Enable UPnP: No
- Enable WAN Aggregation: No
-------------
WAN IP Settings:
- Get WAN IP automatically: No
- IP Address: used IP given to me by VF.
- Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
- Default Gateway: got this off the VF router, starts with 84.
-------------
WAN DNS Setting:
- DNS Server: got this off the VF router too, starts with 90.
- DNS Privacy Policy: None
-------------
Account Settings:
- Authentication: when I set this to None, the dashboard shows "Connected" but no internet and ping to 8.8.8.8 is failing. When I change it to 802.1x MD5 the dashboard shows "Invalid Account or Password, please modify it" - the tech people I spoke to, say the details are correct and that my VF router use the same details.
- PPP Echo Interval: 6
- PPP Echo Max Failures: 10
---------
Special Requirements from ISP:
- Host: <left blank>
- MAC Address: <left blank>
- Extend the TTL value: No
- Spoof LAN TTL value: No
Under the LAN - > IPTV menu I've selected manual setting for Select ISP Profile and have tried all 3 of these settings:
---------
- Internet: VID 101 PRIO 0
- Internet: VID 911 PRIO 0
- Internet: VID <left blank> PRIO 0
The above settings give me the same message on the dashboard: "Invalid Account or Password, please modify it"
PPPoE:
-------------
Basic Config:
- Enable WAN: Yes
- Enable NAT: Yes
- NAT Type: Symmetric
- Enable UPnP: No
-------------
WAN IP Settings:
- Get WAN IP automatically: No
- IP Address: used IP given to me by VF.
- Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
- Default Gateway: got this off the VF router, starts with 84.
-------------
WAN DNS Setting:
- DNS Server: got this off the VF router too, starts with 90.
- DNS Privacy Policy: None
-------------
Account Settings:
- Username: dsl<9 digit number>@broadband.vodafone.co.uk
- Password: VF password: <8 string password>
- PPP Authentication: Auto
- Disconnect after: 0
- PPP Echo Interval: 6
- MTU: 1492
- MRU: 1492
- Service Name: <left blank>
- Access Concentrator Name: <left blank>
- Host-Uniq: <left blank>
- Internet Detection: PPP Echo
- PPP Echo Interval: 6
- PPP Echo Max Failures: 10
- Additional pppd options: <left blank>
---------
Special Requirements from ISP:
- Enable VPN + DHCP Connection: Yes
- Host: <left blank>
- MAC Address: <left blank>
- Extend the TTL value: No
- Spoof LAN TTL value: No
Under the LAN - > IPTV menu I've selected manual setting for Select ISP Profile and have tried all 3 of these settings:
---------
- Internet: VID 101 PRIO 0
- Internet: VID 911 PRIO 0
- Internet: VID <left blank> PRIO 0
I would really appreciate some help with the above, if the settings look good and it is a username and password issue please let me know who I can speak to. The support people I have spoken to say the details are correct <I even spelt it out to them> and they confirmed the details are correct.
Solved! Go to best answer.

You have to get them to cut and paste the un and pass to you, honestly, they make so many errors!
On your first setup, follow the KISS approach - Keep It SimpleS!
Your connection is going to be PPPoE, and let the Vodafone servers set the Static IP for you. This will also set up DNS servers that you can change later, once you have the connection working. If your connection is through OpenReach, you don't need to use the IPTV settings at all, but if you are connected through CityFibre then you'll need to use: LAN> IPTV> manual> internet VID: 911. *This setting should be moved to WAN> Internet Connection, in the very next release (unless Asus change their minds).
Once it's up and running you can turn off uPnP and set your preferred DNS servers
@Ripshod seeing 2 WAP IPs suggests that this is a Smart ONT that is actually bridging the connection: The image below in my VDSL info, complete with the secondary WAN connection to 192.168.131.1 - my modem!
*Mods there is ABSOLUTELY no information that identifies my network in the image above. If you don't understand then please ask a question rather than just mindlessly deleting it!
**May the 5th (why couldn't it be May the 4th) is the default date that Asus router currently use when they've not been able to retrieve the correct date & time

It's a common thing on asus routers that changing that setting produces those results. It happened to me on the ping thread and I never changed the setting, intentionally or otherwise. It has nothing to do with the openreach ONT.

I disabled the "Enable VPN + DHCP Connection" but still no luck. Please note after every change I turn the "Internet Connection" off then on again, as I find that "Refreshes" the Network Map page and the connectivity information. Is it possible to get the username and password reset? as the last support person could not give me a straight answer.

Then I think we need to start again.
Chat with an agent via https://vodafone.co.uk/bbservcd and get them to copy/paste your login details into the window, you can then copy/paste into a text file - this will eliminate errors.
Then as @Jayach suggested do a factory reset on the asus. When you reboot the router it should start in QIS mode (quick Internet setup) where all you need is your correct login details. Don't change anything else until you have a connection.

So my router is now working. I got my issue escalated to a manager (Hashem) who was very friendly and helpful, he identified that one of the letters in my password was meant to be a capital letter "K" rather than lowercase.
I setup the router using PPPoE without a VLAN ID under the IPTV setting (Select ISP Profile = None).
So like mentioned multiple times in the thread, the password was incorrect so make sure the support person pastes the password in a chat or at least confirms there is no mixup between lowercase and capital letters.
On a side note if the password is 100% correct you might need to remove the VF router provisioning from the VF system (ask the support person) - be WARNED this will stop the VF router from working so that you can provision the third party router. This option should be a LAST resort, as getting the VF router added again can take up to an hour (this is for Fibre setups)
A huge thanks to @Ripshod, @CrimsonLiar and @Jayach for taking the time to help me with my issue and huge thanks to Hashem at VF for his support 10/10.

Hi are you still using the GT-AX11000 as Im needing to upgrade from a TP-Link AX6000 to something with a 2.5gb and 10gb if possible, Im betting the pro version GT-AX11000 PRO would be compatible with Vodafone fibre 900mb?
