Solution

To get full fibre ISP plan, need My Vodafone account

crimsom
4: Newbie

Openreach FTTC and FTTP services to my house are both live and working.

I am a potential new customer to Vodafone and struggling to order one of the full fibre discounted plans, without an existing My Vodafone account. Evidently I cannot order any of the Vodafone (CityFibre) plans, it must be a Vodafone (Openreach) plan. I am trying to order the Vodafone (Openreach) full fibre 200 pro plan before discount ends.

Despite three attempts, I am told that I need to have an existing My Vodafone account. Vodaphone will not process my new order because my existing Openreach FTTP service is not listed in the Openreach or Vodafone full fibre database.

The Question: how to get a new My Vodafone account for "free", so I can then request Vodafone (Openreach) full fibre plan from an existing My Vodafone account?

You might find this thread more than a little strange, but after three attempts, this is what Vodafone wants.

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

Hi @Jayach thanks for your advice. Openreach FTTC and FTTP services to my house are both live and working.

Evidently the Openreach FTTP database will not be updated, and only the full fibre BT ISP database can see that I have a live FTTP service.  There is a reason why the wholesale Openreach organisation was supposedly fully divorced from BT, but custom and practice still gives BT priority. Consequently, ISP ordering over the internet can only see my Openreach FTTC service.

I have invested many hours visiting the local Vodaphone shop four times, and undertaken three online Vodafone Live Chats. All of these attempts to order Vodafone full fibre say they cannot see my Openreach FTTP full fibre service.

The Vodafone advice I was given, is to get a My Vodafone account, and only when I have an existing My Vodafone account, will Vodaphone (Openreach) consider my request to get their full fibre ISP plan.

This is all very strange.

It does seem odd, I can't see you getting a My Vodafone account unless you are a Vodafone customer.

Unfortunately there are quite a few post on here where people are in a area with FTTP (Openreach or CityFibre) but the Vodafone checker "says no".

I don't think there is a solution, you just seem to need to wait until their checker catches up to reality. I know that will mean missing the current offer, but there always seems to be another on the way.

Edit: Have you tried ordering on-line. I can't see you being asked for a My Vodafone account that way.

I can understand Openreach possibly not being available, as they don't (unlike FTTC) have to let all suppliers use their FTTP network.

However if CityFibre cover your area that should be available as Vodafone are a strategic partner. Full fibre broadband in even more places thanks to new CityFibre deal (vodafone.co.uk)

What does the CityFibre site say? CityFibre - Residential

Hi @Jayach thank you for taking an interest.

The BBC media say that Vodafone have recently signed two strategic partners, CityFibre and Openreach.

Both my FTTC analogue and FTTP digital full fibre services are live and working.

We are not in the CityFibre catchment area, so cannot get Vodaphone (CityFibre) plans.

We can get Vodafone (Openreach) FFTP plans, but only if Openreach has released an updated database to all FTTP ISPs and not just FTTP BT. Currently, Openreach have not provided Vodafone full fibre (or any other ISP full fibre providers) with their updated FTTP database.

I have raised Openreach Fibre Enquiry to request they provide Vodafone with their most recent Openreach database (that includes my FTTP service), and Openreach has logged and assigned a reference to my Fibre Enquiry.

The Vodafone webpage checker says, there are only FTTC services to my house. Vodafone live chat refuse to accept my personal assurance that I have full fibre FTTP that is live and working.

When Vodafone refuse to provide FTTP because their database has not been updated, it is very strange.

The local Vodafone shop is aware of this problem, but do not want to get involved, because I am not their first potential new FTTP Customer to have encountered this very strange difficulty.

I have invested many hours trying to get full fibre Vodafone plan. If corporate Vodafone are not interested, in getting new customers, I will be pragmatic and get a full fibre ISP from a different organisation. The black Friday deals are still available this week, and I am looking at some some good full fibre discounted deals that are not Openreach.

Thanks for the update, i mistakenly thought you said you had both Openreach and CityFibre available. Probably mixed you up with another poster.

You originally said you were trying to get a My Vodafone account, but even if you could I doubt it would make any difference to you being able to order Openreach FTTP via Vodafone.

If they are not Openreach, who else do you have available?

Hi @Jayach  my broadband options are FTTC ISP up to 47Mbps, FTTP Openreach full fibre ISP up to 1.0Gbps, Virgin fibre ISP up to 3.0Gbps , 5G more than 100 Mbps.  Contemplated, sim card in laptop, and sim card in wireless router. There are probably other options. I have an expensive (gaming) laptop designed for exceptional performance, and a powerful workstation. Nearly everything is undertaken online.

Working from Home and using Microsoft Teams virtual meetings, I prefer a good reliable download and upload speed.

There are better deals for business users, but I am a home user. My employer is contemplating providing me with a dedicated full fibre account, but despite my request for a four port ONT modem, Openreach only installed their cheap small single port ONT modem. Openreach has a new cheap four port ONT modem to be released mid 2021, but it is not available for public consumption. The Openreach ONT modem is powered from house mains supply, without a dedicated Openreach Uninterruptible Power Supply (PSU).

The red public phone kiosk next to our local shops has now been removed.

If the news media's predicted (doom & gloom) electrical power disruptions occur, it is not possible for digital phone to contact emergency services. So want to retain FTTC analogue phone powered from exchange, and no, I do not currently have a mobile phone number, just touch screen smart devices.

@crimsom

I have only just realised you are the same poster as on https://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Other-broadband-queries/Openreach-FTTP-Full-Fibre-broadband-installa...

So were you thinking you could get Vodafone FTTP on the same line/fibre as the BT service?

Technically I suppose it's possible but I've never heard of anyone doing it. I supposed that is where the 4 port ONT you spoke of would come in.

Hi @Jayach  Yes, and I have a full fibre cable installation directly to the ONT modem, there are no fibre joints in my new cable. My full fibre FTTP download and upload speeds should be max for the ISP plan.

I am a BT Customer and purchased the full fibre discounted BT 100 plan, which has a guaranteed stay fast minimum download of 100 Mbps, with typical download speed of 150 Mbps. This BT plan provided 150 Mbps in the first five days, then dropped to 30 Mbps (in breach of contract). Do not want to pay for full fibre FTTP, to only get FTTC download speed.

Now trying to transfer from BT to Vodafone full fibre 200 pro, but Openreach's custom and practice is not allowing full fibre ISP transfer, by withholding full fibre database update to all full fibre ISPs.
