Fibre install cancelled after 2 months wait. What to do now?

So I placed an order for Fibre Broadband towards the end of September. I was given an activation date of 10th October. The day before go-live I was told there was a delay from Openreach. Since then I've had a more or less weekly call from Vodafone with an update, basically saying it's 'in progress' with OR. Compensation would be due at about £6 a day. Now, exactly 2 months after the original date I get a text and email from Vodafone saying my order is cancelled.

Vodafone are saying there's nothing they can do, and that the compensation won't be paid as this would require the broadband to  actually be activated. It's down to OR apparently.

What to do? My neighbours have fibre bb. There is a standard OR line into the house. It's really unbelievable and unacceptable!

Are you referring to Fibre or Full Fibre. The presence of a standard OR line into the house has no relevance to Full Fibre.

What broadband do you have currently?

The new line is meant to be full fibre. There is an existing standard OR line which was in use, but we ended the broadband service temporariloy (we moved out while an extension was being built).

It does seem strange that you can't get FTTP if your neighbours have it.

Why Vodafone can't get more information from Openreach as to what the problem is, is also annoying.

Personally I think I would just try another ISP and see if they have the same problem.

It is strange. I raised a complaint and Vodafone did at least respond quickly. They reckon Openreach are saying it's a 'distance from the exchange issue' which it most certainly isn't (I live in the middle of a town with fibre installed widely). I've re-ordered through Sky. Go live date of 9th Jan. I'm not holding my breath although I will report back for board info. I have Starlink as a contingency if not. Apparently I will get the compensation within 60 days, but not holiding my breath on that either.

In case there's something wrong on Openreach's systems you can raise a query through them:

Hopefully your Sky activation will go ok though

Knowledge is power, guard it well

Yup, my activation was delayed for at least a month and, like you, I was mystified about the extent to which Vodafone would not or could not progress things properly and expeditiously with OR; all I got was a message relay service where if OR had not provided any update, there wouldn't be one and no estimate of when installation and activation would take place.  Complaining merely resulted in calls giving no progress on a weekly basis instead of less frequency!
