Tv connecting to 5gh, phone connecting to 2 4gh

Desperate for some help. I've just moved to Vodafone and the WiFi is working great. However as my TV connects to the 5gh connection and my phone won't, I'm no longer able to mirror my phone screen to my TV. Its the same with my les mills app, they advised the phone and TV need to be on the same connection. Both are connecting to Vodafone but I'm finding it impossible to stop the TV going to 5gh or impossible to connect my phone to the 5gh connection. Help! I can no longer stream my online classes to my TV, which I need for size

If you are not on Pro, you can split the Wi-Fi bands so you can connect the phone and TV to the same Wi-Fi band.

However how old is this phone that won't connect to 5Ghz?

Its a Samsung S20 about 15 months old. The 5ghz broadband option doesn't show as available connections on my phone. Not sure why?

I've used smart view from the same phone to the same TV fine for the last 6 months and still connects through my old WiFi connection and router (being disconnected today

Okay, so we've a 6yo Samsung TV, which because of it's naughty spamming habits is no longer connected to the internet.  However, I can still stream to it with ease, just using it's direct-connect ability, and my Poco F3 phone and just the system cast ability (no app needed).  That system cast ability is one of the quick access abilities from pulling down from the system bar.

 

*Note that this is different in capability to the casting ability that I have from some apps to the GoogleTV (Chromecast) - I'd never really realised this difference until a bit of testing in response to your question.

With both your TV and an Android phone correctly connected to the router the data flow from a normal cast is from the phone to the router and then relayed to the TV.  So it shouldn't matter if the serving device and receiving device are on any combination of bands or even wired.  *This is different to the bad set up routines of many smart devices.

 

Mirroring can be different!  On Android you may find it necessary to go into the menus:

System> WiFi > Additional Settings> WiFi Direct

But you should still see the TV as a client irrespective of what band it's on - it will advertise itself on both bands even while it has an active connection on one of the bands!  If you try to connect using this method, the TV may ask on screen if you want to make the connection.

 

Casting from an Android device to most TVs should just work, and the devices don't need to be on the same WiFi band irrespective of the method used.

 

If you've ever felt the need to assign the TV a static IP, manually set the subnet, or only allow authorised devices, then I'd revisit these settings.

Thanks for your response. I've used smart view from the same phone to the same TV fine for the last 6 months and still connects through my old WiFi connection and router (being disconnected today) so I don't think the issue is the phone? Never needed to set the tv as a static address or go in to the settings you suggested, so frustrating as I need to be able to see my online classes on my TV. Too small a screen on my phone. Any other ideas?

The app I'm using has a cast option but it's not mwah greyed out. I can get this to work with YouTube but not the Les Mills app and can't get smart view to connect either now with VF broadband.
