Solution

Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub

I'm back again with another annoying question.

Is there a flaw in the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub wireless connections firmware?
2.4g saying minimum rate is 288mbps
5g is saying minimum rate is 54mbps
That is a back to front in my book. 5g should have the highest minimum rate not 2.4g

I can confirm it's back to front.

I connected a laptop that doesn't support 5g connectivity and it's listed on the routers overview as being connected to the 5g connection.

I don't find that on my THG3000. The overview page on mine is definitely correct.

I have firmware 19.2.0307-3261019, but it was also correct on my other router with 19.2.0307-3261013.

This is what inssider shows my networks as:

Automatically came with 19.2.0307-3261019.

I tried splitting the bands and it corrected the minimum rates problem. But 5g stops broadcasting splitting them.
I tried manually connecting to the 5g by writing in the SSID and Password with the kitchen tv but it say's "Not in Range"
Doesn't show up on list for any of the laptops to connect either and I know they run on 5g.

When you split the bands the 5GHz gets 5G added to the SSID so vodafoneXXXXXX becomes vodafone5GXXXXXX.

Whenever the router seem to be "misbehaving" I like to do a reset to factory defaults from the firmware.

Sounds like you work for BT, their solution to fix everything is to get a pin and reset the router.

Doesn't matter what the problem is, they always say to do a reset and see if it helps. 🤣

Vodafone seems to be still working on optimizing my line. So I need to wait a few more days before can I do a reset.

Can I use my ZyXEL router as the modem?
It's very straight forward and easy to do, just select Bridge as mode and enter a VLAN ID 2 & 101.

No routing and firewall tasks are done by the ZyXEL device as the WLAN and DHCP functions are disabled.
All required LAN tasks are taken on by the Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub via the WAN socket, that is connected to the LAN1 port of the ZyXEL device, such as the firewall or WLAN backbone system.

Since the ZyXEL modem seems to achieve better Downstream and Upstream rates I thought I'd ask.

I know vodafone allow using 3rd party routers because they gave me the VDSL info to put into my ZyXEL to try it out. But what are vodafone's views in using 3rd party modems?

As long as it it is on the Openreach approved list….

… I use a third party modem (Draytek Vigor 130) along with a third party modem free mesh router.
