Hello, this is urgent as I am travelling outside the UK and suddenly find my "pay as you go" SIM "invalid". My friends and family use this number to contact me.
I have been using this sim for almost 10 years although not been using it very frequently recently.
From researching Vodafone site, I understand that if I top up right away you should be able to reactivate it for me. I am sorry if I have gone not using the SIM for a few months. I thought I used it. What should I do? What do I need to provide you?
Kindly help.
Thank you.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news @Lucy_L it is important to keep the SIM active with outgoing activity especially when you are depending on the number for family contact.
If the SIM is coming up an invalid SIM it sounds like the number has been disconnected from the network for non use. It is an Ofcom ruling that all PAYG SIMs have to be in use and the time limit before disconnection is 180 days. Vodafone would have sent text notifications asking you to top up or use the service before disconnection.
As the SIM is showing as invalid it's unlikely topping up will help but the information is below.
The way to top up from abroad is here: Top Up you will also need to purchase a roaming pack details here: Charge Checker Roaming
If the number was registered in your name against an online account, you can try contacting Vodafone from abroad here: Contact Us or send the Social Team a message here : Contact Us but it unlikely they will be able to help with an invalid SIM.
