I got a new PAYG sim to use as my phone number on Twitter. However when I sign up and it asks for a phone number to send the verification code nothing is received and no error message is provided. Have I just wasted my money?

Can you check in your phones preference settings that nothing is hindering the shortcodes.
Also check with your bank that nothing is hindering this at their end.
There are some similar threads on tne forum with advice in that may also help @carolfraser610
Shortcodes should work.
As a process of elimination can you try your sim card in another phone ?

Thanks. Swapping phones and using the short code haven't worked unfortunately.

Assuming you have not already registered a number with Twitter and the SIM is activated where you have topped up and made a chargeable connection, there should be nothing stopping you receiving the verification OTP. Try following this support link from Twitter.

Problem solved! After getting absolutely nowhere in Messenger I started an online chat on the Vodafone website. I was advised to turn Enable 4G in mobile data settings to off. Bingo.
