CPI Increase

Would be intrigued to know where the 1.4% rise came from in your email as according to ONS as at Feb 2021 it is 0.7% and the March 2021 figures aren't out yet!  Also are you using RPI as per your email or CPI as there is a subtle difference, although showing as the same value?

Does this explain at all @JM1955

From https://www.vodafone.co.uk/pricechanges

“ If your plan started from 9 December 2020:

  • Your agreement provides for an increase in your monthly bill each April, based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) plus 3.9%
  • We use the CPI figure published by the Office for National Statistics in January and apply the change in April each year, in line with your terms and conditions
  • In the event that the rate of CPI is negative, we’ll only increase your monthly bill by 3.9% in the relevant year
  • The 3.9% reflects the investments we need to make in our network, rising costs of equipment and services from our suppliers.”

My apologies if not.

I suspect it's just poor writing skills from Vodafone.  MSE has the following wording:

Took out a new mobile, tablet, smart watch or home broadband deal before 9 December 2020? Your bill will go up by 1.4% from April. This is based on the February 2021 RPI figure of inflation as announced in March.

So by Vodafone saying "We use the RPI figure published by the Office for National Statistics in March" they seem to mean they use the Feb RPI figure, which is indeed 1.4%.

Likewise the CPI figure published in Jan means it's the Dec 0.6% one, so a 4.5% increase if you are on CPI+.
