I have just purchased a Vodafone SIM and have been activating my voicemail. In order to retrieve my voicemails I normally dial 121 from my mobile. However I read that I can also pick up voicemails by calling 07836 121 121 as an alternative. However calling that number just produces a message saying:
"The number you have dialled cannot accept this call. Please hang up and try again."
but it just keeps giving me the same message. So how can I pick up my voicemail from another phone?

If the line you're calling from is also a Vodafone line, you can dial 121 then the mobile number of the line you want to dial into.
e.g. 1210777yyxxyy - this will connect you immediately to the voicemail box of the line. Interrupt the greeting by pressing the * key and type in the PIN. It's the same pin you'd have set up to retrieve the messages remotely via the other number.

The message you're hearing sounds like a recorded message from the '3' network which would mean if you're calling from the Three mobile network, they block access to that number.
I've just tried the number myself and it connected to the Voicemail service.

No, I was actually calling that number (07836 121 121) from my personal Vodafone landline. So it seems that not only Three mobile blocks it but also Vodafone itself! Can you give me any idea from where/what telephone service in the UK I can call 07836 121 121 which will actually enable me to pick up my voicemail messages from any telephone other than my personal Vodafone mobile number? Or is there any other way at all for retrieving my voicemails?

Call from any Vodafone mobile and you should be fine...

When you say calling also from a Vodafone line, do you mean any Vodafone number including landline? I've just tried calling from my Vodafone landline using the technique you've suggested (121 followed by my Vodafone mobile) and it tells me the number I've called has not been recognised. So I'm really confused as to what the requirements/restrictions are for retrieving voicemail from my Vodafone mobile from an other phone.

Hi @ojos
When the SIM is activated the voicemail will automatically be switched on. Providing you have set up a PIN you can access voicemail from any other phone using the long dial number and keying in the PIN when prompted. Try changing the 0 to +44
If you are having a problem accessing voicemails calling from any other phone this will be account related and will need further investigation from Customer Service, live chat or by speaking to the Social Team here: Contact Us

Yes, I have already activated voicemail and set up the necessary PIN. I then looked at this page:
https://support.vodafone.co.uk/Phones-devices/Voicemail/1464047822/How-do-I-check-my-voicemail.htm
Which tells me "If you’re travelling abroad," to call the number shown. However, I'm in the UK and therefore not abroad so to me the +44 at the beginning of the number is just the international code for UK where I am at living. Whenever I see a phone number starting +44 in the UK, I replace it by number 0. But are you saying that I can only call that voicemail number by making an international call from a phone located outside the UK? Unfortunately my home phone doesn't have the character + on the dial pad and the only way I know of calling a number starting +44 is to replace it with a 0.

To dial +44 on a phone that has no + symbol, dial 0044 followed by the number.
e.g. 00447123123123

As far as I'm aware, one thing you will need to do is change the PIN from the default to allow remote (and possibly overseas) access. Call it from the number it relates to and there should be an option.
