Does anyone know what 'sports room' is? It has appeared on my bill as a chargeable extra, and I don't know what it is. Thanks

Hi @Glockenspiel086

I've not seen that particular wording on a Vodafone bill and am not sure its anything to do with Vodafone's Entertainment Packages or asked about on the forum.

So this could be an unwanted Subscription.

Is there any kind of number on the bill you can use in the psauthority.org.uk/for-consumers to see who it's from ?

Vodafone have the Premium-rate-SMS-FAQ.

As this is an unknown to you and unexpected charge I would also suggest to speak with customer services via Contact-us and or speak with the Vodafone Social Media Teams via Contact-us-for-account-specific-queries as they too have account access and might be a bit quicker than telephone support on 191 or Live Chat at the moment.

They both can confirm if this is one of their services or a subscription that has somehow tagged itself to your number or you may have inadvertently tapped on something while surfing which has instigated this.

They can advise on how to stop this.

If you require a refund then typically a person needs to contact the merchant

i.e the company that levied the charge.

Thank you. I've managed to speak to someone at Vodafone.

Turns out that it's an unauthorised subscription. They're sending me a link explaining how to cancel and get refunded. They've also put a block in the number.

Thanks for your suggestions, they're really appreciated!

You're very welcome @Glockenspiel086

Good to hear your being helped with this.

Hi

Do you mind to share that link with me to unsubscribe from Sports room, there are 3 months already they charge me, spoke to Vodafone and they said that they will sort it out, but they never do. Thanks in advance

There's been a lot of discussion over the years about how these things come about.   The most obvious is that you may have taken up a free trial offer and then not cancelled it at the end of the free period.   However, it also seems that interacting with an advert or pop-up can trigger it - the originator gets your number from the phone and sets up a charge.   In the case of premium-rate texts, it may also be that random numbers are entered into a remote system.

Because much of these services originate outside the UK, the regulator is sometimes limited in what they can do.   Networks can also have a problem cancelling because they receive an apparently legitimate incoming charge which they simply pass on.   However, where there is bad practice, they will sometimes block a sender completely.

Your best bet is to set up the charge to bill bar on your Vodafone account.  Some people like to use theh facility, but many don't need it and it's a good first line of defence.  I'm not sure whether it works retrospectively, but it's worth a try.

You can also block premium rate texts, but this bar affects outgoing as well as incoming and stops you texting all shortcodes, which can be a major inconvenience.  (The way round that is to set the bar and then remove it temporarily when necessary, but a more granular bar would be desirable.)

Hiya,

text 85900 STOP

email ccuk at sportsroom.mobi  (dont leave gap as had to do this to get the post pass community rules) to get a full refund.  i did this and got my money back within a week.  they send you a code to go to the post office to receive the cash.

make sure you put the phone number and tell them its an unathorised subscrition and demand the money back
