Some help please. I am out of contract with Vodafone. I am SIM only. Vodafone have told me on web chat directly that I need to move my number to PAYG which will take a month and then fill a Keep My Number form if I want to keep my number..
Carphone Warehouse have told me I don't need to bother with all that at all and they can just upgrade me directly and I will automatically keep my number. Can I believe the Carphone Warehouse salesman?
I don't know who to believe and who is correct. I don't want the hassle of changing to PAYG if not necessary but don't want to get this wrong and find I should have done what Vodafone said.
Please can someone give me a definitive answer. Who is correct?

Yes, This is my feeling - that Vodafone will be right, but the CW salesmen said yes I can do it "100%"....

....and also can I just choose the cheapest be it new contract or upgrade if I do the PAYG /Keep My number form or is it still definitely just an upgrade?

You haven't upgraded, you have taken a second line. Had you upgraded your existing line, there would be no need to transfer your existing phone number.

Carphone can certainly do an upgrade but they usually provide a new contract with a new number.
There have been many previous threads asking this question, from the forum search facility on upgrading through third party these will come up with previous helpful correct answers.

Hi AnnS I've checked the forum first of course, but those responses all say to do PAYG then Keep My Number or port out to another network and port back in. The difference is that CW reckon they can upgrade directly keeping my number without all the rigmarole, but Vodafone told me different and I don't know who is right. I don't trust CW....
