I purchased direct from Motorola a sim free MotoG9 Play mobile. I have no issue with Virgin broadband connectivity. However unable to enable WiFi Calling. According to Vodafone website this mobile has wi fi calling. Is there a Vodafone TEXT update to configure mobile so that this mobile can use WiFi calling on Vodafone network. Vodafone My Account shows clearly that mobile is set for WiFi Calling.

Hi

I resolved mine yesterday. In my Vodafone Account I had previously registered for WiFi Calling when I had a Moto E4 Plus mobile and it didn't work. The Moto G9 Play was purchased direct from Motorola as they said the set had WiFi  Calling capability.  The Vodafone website confirmed that it could make Wi Fi calls on their network. However the set was not purchased from Vodafone but as stated above from Motorola Online. I spent hours with Vodafone Support but with no success and was on the verge of giving up. Then I thought maybe I would de-register WiFi Calling from within My Vodafone Online. I left it 10 minutes and then followed this process to register again

  1. My Vodafone > Services and Extras > Calling options.
  2. My Vodafone app > Manage Bars & Extras > Buy and manage extras > Calling options.
  3.  Yes to WiFi Calling
  4.  This triggered a response by text to my Moto G9 Play saying WiFi Calling had been set up.
  5.  I left it 30 minutes and then went to https://www.vodafone.co.uk/network/calling-features/wi-fi-calling
  6.  Followed the process for Moto G9 Play. I had done this previously but the options were not available.
  7. This time WiFi calling was enabled within 2 minutes.
  8. Unfortuantely Vodafone Support did not pick up on the fact that when  you change your mobile you need to de-register for WiFi Calling and start again.

Hi @sirdodger3

From Vodafone wi-fi-calling.

“ All the devices on this page will support WiFi calling when you buy them directly from us. Please note that phones bought from other UK telecom providers are unlikely to support our WiFi calling, with the exception of iPhones, which should work regardless.

Devices might not be compatible when bought from third parties, we’re working with these other manufacturers to add our settings.  ”

That said please do look at the advise i gave in Wifi-calling-on-Samsung-Galaxy-S10-Lite.  It is for a different device but the info is still the same.

Calling Over WiFi Set up. Ask the agent to force the phone via sending an OTA configuration update that should provision your phone for Calling Over WiFi.

"Register for Vodafone Wi-Fi Calling
Text the word CALLING to 97888
This is a free text which will add the service to your account
You should receive the following confirmation text:
Thanks. We’ll add Wi-Fi Calling to your account in the next 24 hours and will let you know when you’re all set up.
If you’d like to discuss this with us, or if you have any other issues, you can find more info here or contact us
Once you receive the confirmation text, switch on Wi-Fi Calling in your settings
Go to Settings, scroll down and choose the Application icon
Choose Phone and scroll down until you see Wi-Fi Calling – select the box beside this option
A pop-up will appear asking you to confirm if you want to enable Wi-Fi Calling – tap OK"

Hi.   I have a Moto G8+ and have tried all avenues to get wifi calling enabled.   The simple fact is it won't, and this appears to be effective across the Motorola range.   I even had quite a long converation with the Social Media team who confirmed that there are no separate APN settings for wifi calling and that, if it's going to work, it'll do do with the standard ones.   I've got the service active on the account, toggled it andupdated the APN, but nothing.

FWIW, I also have a Sony L3 (independently purchased SIM-free) on the same account, and that worked out of the box with no further action from me.   I therefore conclude that, if wifi calling ever gets to the Moto range, it'll just start working by itself.

I did follow that process but the text never arrived. I had told the technician that I was already registered for WiFi calling. It was only when I deregistered  and reregisterd again could the mobile be set up. The point being missed by Vodafone support in my case was the fact that the registration is Mobile Model specific.

Well, that's interesting.   I looked yesterday and there was nothing for Motorola then.   I've followed those instructions, but don't get the option, so I guess the G8+ (which was never sold by Vodafone afaik) isn't on the list yet.   Still, any Motorola device is a step forward and I can only hope.

It doesn't seem to make any difference now where the device was purchased, but I think priority is being given to devices Vodafone sells.   Glad to hear you're sorted and let's hope I can join you soon 😁.
