Unlocking my old phone

Hello

I have recently upgraded my phone and gave my old phone to a friend and when he tried to use his sim it didn’t work because he’s on a different network.

How do I unlock my old phone so that my friend can use it?

I’ve tried the chatbot and phoning Vodafone but don’t get anywhere because the automated responses don’t understand what I’m asking.
