Hi,

Just thought this post would benefit some of you IOS users who are thinking of upgrading to IOS18. Updated this morning on iphone 15 pro and 5G Standalone (Ultra) is available and working well. Only thing now is still waiting for Vodafone to add RCS support but hopefully that will follow soon.

I’m on iOS 17 and have had 5G ultra working for a while now.

Thats a new one to me. I haven't seen the Standalone 5G option until today when i upgraded iOS

I have this too.
did not realise was 5G Ultra

but in iOS 18 beta.

under 5G options ‘standalone’ is ticked.

so, what does this do ?

I never had an option within the menu's to enable or disable 5G SA, but dialling *3001#12345#* in the past returned a result that showed I was connected to 5G SA and not NSA. However, I just updated to iOS 18 and I have no Standalone 5G option and iOS 18 has crippled *3001#12345#* and it now shows very little info.

Ah, so 5G Ultra isn’t working on your iPhone? That’s always frustrating, especially when you’re expecting those super-fast speeds and it’s just not happening. It’s funny how something as exciting as 5G can be such a letdown when it doesn’t cooperate. There are a few things that might be going on, though. First, even though your iPhone is 5G-compatible, sometimes the network coverage in your area might not fully support the 5G Ultra-Wideband yet. Even if it says 5G on your phone, it might just be standard 5G or even switching between LTE and 5G depending on where you are.

Another thing is, you might want to check if 5G is properly enabled in your settings. Sometimes it’s not automatically switched on, or you could be on a data plan that doesn’t fully support the Ultra-Wideband option. Carriers are sneaky like that—they might advertise 5G but have different tiers or restrictions that could explain why you’re not getting the Ultra speeds you were hoping for.

Also, if you’ve recently switched carriers or upgraded your plan, there might be a delay in getting your 5G access fully activated on their network. Sometimes all it takes is toggling airplane mode on and off, or even restarting the phone to reset the network connection. But if that doesn't work, you might need to update your carrier settings. That’s one of those things that sounds minor, but it can really impact how your phone connects to the network.

Yea… FYI -It’s only officially supported on iPhone 16, but the toggle appears on the iPhone 15 series when installing iOS 18. It’s not shown or supported on any other iPhone series.

Yeah i noticed that as well. Using Nperf and the code to see what your connected to it does say 5g SA so it must be supported on iphone 15 series just not officially

The problem is, if you run the nPerf speedtest, when the upload part starts it bounces back to NSA. Picture below, marked the spot when it moved from SA to NSA.

At the same time, SA doesn’t seem to kick in very often on iPhone, you need to fiddle with the SA toggle or airplane mode. I’ve tested this in west London.
