Blocking device

I found someone selling a phone online, however they still have contract with Vodafone. I was wondering if I buy the phone off them and the person will stop paying for it  or if they report it as lost, will Vodafone block just the SIM card or will the phone also get blocked?

It's unlikely Vodafone would IMEI block the phone for non payment, the equipment is separate from the airtime contract Vodafone would only block the SIM.

However, there would be nothing stopping the original owner from being dishonest and reporting the phone as lost or stolen and IMEI blocking the phone. Purchasing the phone from an online seller is entirely at your own risk.
